what are your favourite settings on your 2300 I usually run on sensitivity 3 threshold 4 . I use an amp and shoulder speakers. Yesterday tried sensitivity 5 threshold 3 I had to turn down amp but found some tiny gold down to 0.01grm on surface. I regularly noise cancel and ground balance. I picked up a 1.0 grm nugget at 9 inches in very mineralised soil. I was pleased. But wondering whether I could have done better on other settings. ?

The charger has gone back to minelab will wait see the results.

I went out today detected for 8 hrs with no problems. I will definitely get something done with the faulty minelab charger.

I put batteries back on charge 1 hr later the charger indicate fully charged all green lights. I took batteries out put them in another charger. This charger indicated batteries only one quarter charged. They have been charged now for four hours and showing three quarter charged. So the charger supplied with detector is faulty looks like I will have to get onto minelab. Oh well.

I have been detecting about 20yrs and have owned a lot of different machines. It has always been a practice of mine to bury a test nugget to a depth that the machine can only just hear it. Then set the threshold to a point that the target is best heard. I watch some of the videos of people using 2300s and they have the threshold just about screaming. They must be missing a lot of faint signals. Last time out I settled for setting 3 there was a bit of emi about but still able to distinguish targets. Try this yourself when setting threshold it works. Cheers neilo

I just bought a sdc2300 I took it out going over an area I have flogged to death with my gpx. I detected about a dozen small pieces mainly shot and lead no gold. I was pleased that I was able to find this rubbish it showed it definitely out performed my other detector on small targets. After about four hours of detecting my battery alarm went off batteries flat. They were fully charged when I started. I was disappointed that it only lasted such a short time. Does anyone else have this problem with their machine? I have seen some batteries on ebay 9500ma they are rechargeable nmhi . Has anyone tried them?

Its been a while since I was on the forum, well my latest effort is to have my GP3500 modified. I had it done by Minelab Mods Ismael Jones in Western Australia. I couldn't be more pleased, I was detecting an hour after having it returned and within half an hour I dug a nice small 1 gram nugget. The area I found the nugget is on the main path to the diggings where hundreds of detectorists have swung their detectors . The area is heavily mineralised and by using the newly installed smooth mode I was able to hear this faint signal.I was using a Nuggett Finder Sadie Coil and the nugget was about 6inches down. The whole area has been heavily flogged and to even get a signal in this area is amazing. I would like to hear from other detectorists who have had their machines done. I am happy that's for sure. cheers Neilo

I am in Australia and live about 500 miles from the fires we have smoke from the fires in the air. Today police announced they have arrested an arsenist who lit one fire in which 21 people burnt to death. To me this guy is vermin and no doubt a murderer. I dont know what punishment would suit this crime but I know what I would like to see happen to him. seeya Neilo

I use smaller 7ah battery on mine I get about 6hrs running time. I change batteries midday at least I am not running around with a battery like a brick on my back. Its a lot lighter and a cheaper alternative. My detecting buddy made his own lithium battery set up using a sony camera battery which came with its own charger cost him about $25 on ebay. the 2200 v2 is better machine than the original 2200 it runs at a slower tracking speed and is better for small nuggets good machine Seeya Neilo

With headphones make sure you have a pair with volume control and a sound limiter when using a GMT. there is no volume control on the detector and you can get deafened by a big signal. I have a pair of Killer Bees I use on mine. Headphones do need to be 100 ohm. When using your GMT by setting your SAT setting up above 9 you will be able to hear much smaller targets, also sensitivity doubles from 8-10. You can also run the machine with your threshold turn down to the the point where it is only just silent this will help hear tiny nuggets. I know people say about running threshold so you can only just hear it , try setting it to the point just before you can hear it. Run your ground balance in manual and push your grab button every five minutes or so. If you want to run in Auto go very slowly as the Auto tracking tends to be a bit slow. When you are using the machine in high mineralisation if you have the iron Id on somethimes the machine will grunt on a gold nugget thinking it is iron. If the machine does grunt check it out to be safe. good hunting seeya Neilo

Well done Matt, those little coils are great in the trash, I was able to sort through the rubbish targets with mine and dig out a nugget. I had been over the same area so many times before with a big coil and given up it was too hard to work. The area was littered on the surface with little pieces of iron. bullet shells, lead etc . With that coil I was able to listen out for the softer deeper target in amongst the junk.The nugget was down about 8 inches. weighs .9grms. bye for now Neilo

The old goldfeild where I got the very small gold had hundreds of verticle shafts which went down about 50ft. to a level where the main gold was found, just below a layer of white sandy clay, this clay was dumped in heaps all around the tops of the old shafts. The area is a general fossicking area where you can dig all you like, this white clay was what we used to call pipe clay. Whether it is good for making pipes I doubt it it was more the colour which gave it its name. Some of these heaps I have seen on other diggings are massive standing 30ft high 100 yds square, just imaging scraping your way down a inch at a time on those. seeya Neilo

Hi Rob yes I have a 6 inch Goldstalker coil they are a great little coil. The area I detect is very overgrown, with a lot of litter and rocks I find these coils are ideal for those conditions. This area really has been flogged by other detectorists over the years, yet I have still been able to get a few bits thanks to these coils. seeya Neilo
