  1. I can also vouch for the Platypus coil made for the Explorer/Quattro's detectors for coin and relic hunting. I have the Platypus on my Quattro and it is also very sensitive and quiet. John Tomlinson,CET John's Detectors Best Detector Shop in Texas!
  2. Hey Bob, looks as if you are doing well on the placering and thanks as always for the great pics. You do a nice job of the photo's. I hope the Minelab is doing well for ya Bob and I am glad you got a Minelab PI finally. Ok Brother I just wanted to say howdy and I hope all you fella's have a great outing! God Bless Bob. John Tomlinson,CET John's Detectors P=VI Howdy Rob!
  3. Hey Rob, that is too cool and congrats to you ! I'm glad you got the award because you have worked hard for that. Ok I wish you much more success and take care, God Bless. John Tomlinson,CET John's Detectors
  4. Hi Bob, looks like your in the groove again and making some progress. Thanks as always for the pics. I hope this is a a good dig and there is a lot of gold there for you. I hope Doc does well with his diggin's too. Ok Bob nice to see you posting and chat to you later my friend and God Bless. John Tomlinson,CET John's Detectors
  5. Hi everyone, I have to admit that I am out of the nugget hunting scene because there is no gold in West Texas. So I just mostly read the postings here on this forum. But being a metal detector dealer in the coin, jewelry and relic type detectors I don't mind saying that I love to help people out and I don't charge for the instruction I give after the purchase of one of my detectors. I know that coinshooting and nuggethunting are worlds apart but expert advice and lessons are something that should come with the purchase of a new detector which ever you do. Ok everybody take care and God Bless all. John Tomlinson,CET John's Detectors
  6. Hi Bob and Reg, I'm with you Bob and it does take a lot of courage to do this whole thing the way Dave has. It is really an interesting project and I would love to keep seeing info posted on the Pulse Devil. I also enjoy your posts Reg. How have ya been Bob? I hope the gold mine is doing well! What do you think about the Minelab Extreme that you got to use Bob? Ok fella's take care and God Bless! John Tomlinson,CET John's Detectors
  7. Hi Reg, I perfectly understand your situation because I am there too. When you have a medical condition that medical insurance that my job provides is something I have to have. I wanted to go to the Farmington gold show this weekend and setup a booth but it is just too far away. Such is life Reg. By the way what is the POZ forum? I wonder if Compass is completely shut down now? I have got a Compass Gold Scanner Pro and sure would like to get a schematic of it. Is Eric still improving his GS5B? Ok Reg thanks for shedding some light on your situation and looks like we have a similar way of life. CU later Reg and God Bless ya. John Tomlinson,CET John's Detectors
  8. Hi Fred, does the lazy part come with age? John Tomlinson,CET John's Detectors
  9. Hi Reg, I wonder do you only hunt for gold nuggets? Does your job limit you greatly in getting to metal detect more? Also I get the understanding that maybe you spend a lot of time at the test bench. I don't mean to be nosey Reg. I hope you will eventually be able to swing a coil a lot more. I always enjoy your posts too. Ok God Bless ya Reg. John Tomlinson,CET John's Detectors
  10. Hi Reg, I get the idea that there is still plenty of shallow nuggets to be had if we could just get rid of the problem of the PI's responding to trash. Some have left me with the idea that shallow gold that is detectable is getting harder to find in the U.S. anyway. I remember as a teenager exploring old mines South of Tucson, it was pretty trashy around them. I hope there is still good gold to be found in a place like Arizona. I don't know when I will be able to come back to use a detector to find gold. I am looking forward to the test results on these newest designs myself. Ok Reg thanks for the post and God Bless ya. 11. Hi Reg, also the inductor(coil) can be seen as storing current and the capacitor of course stores voltage. If it was a perfect world this charge and discharge cycle in the parallel LC circuit would be self sustaining. But it isn't and will play out or ring to a stop eventually. But there is a peak in the current in the tank coil that is quite high at a certain point in this cycle and that is what you are looking at. So yes it is a really cool phenomenem isn't it? Ok CU later Reg. John Tomlinson,CET John's Detectors
  12. Hi Reg, I'm sorry to be so long in getting back to you. I'm at work right now. The voltage will rise to it's highest value along with the impedance while the total current will drop to its absolute minimum value at resonance in this type circuit. so the impedance will pass the resonant frequency. The high Q will give the circuit a very narrow bandwidth too. I still view a VLF metal detector almost as a radio with a loop antenna on the end of it. I sure do need to build that HH PI Reg. I'll get it done someday. Ok I will see ya later Reg and God Bless. John Tomlinson,CET John's Detectors
  13. Ok Inhere, so my thought of being happy with the SD2100V2 is justified rather than the using a GPX4000 as long as I have the know how and experience and gold finds to make it worth it. The GPX4000 I know is a very nice instrument but if I could make do with a SD2100V2 that would be fine with me. But if I ever get around to it and build up my Hammerhead PI that would be an interesting project to learn from and then prospect with it. I still think that VLF detectors are very useful for nugget hunting and I will always have a Lobo or Eureka around. Ok Inhere CU later and God Bless my friend. John Tomlinson,CET John's Detectors
  14. Hi everyone, I was thinking about auto ground tracking. I have heard that a lot of the proffessional nugget hunters prefer the SD2100 over the other machines with auto ground tracking so that they have more control over the machine. If this is true it leads me to wonder how good is auto ground tracking? Is it really very reliable? Also does the auto ground tracking on PI's perform much better than VLF detectors? It seems to me that getting a detector ground balanced is the easy part, but getting it to keep up with the constant changes in the soils is another story. Just wondering. Thanks. John Tomlinson,CET John's Detectors By the way I had a short email exchange with Bruce Candy and he said the next 10 years hold many wonderful things for metal detector technology.
