  1. HI ROB, WELL, HERE IS THE FIRST MOORE CREEK STORY. I MISSED MY %&^*#$%*^ PLANE UP THERE!! FIRST I DOZED BACK OFF AT HOME AT 5:30 A.M., ENDED UP LEAVING LATE WITH BARELY ENOUGH TIME TO GET TO CLEVELAND, SO I WAS FLYING DOWN THE HIGHWAY HALF ASLEEP STILL WHEN SUDDENLY THERE WERE MYSTERIOUS RED AND BLUE LIGHTS ALL AROUND. S%*T, NOW IM GETTING PULLED OVER. SO NEEDLESS TO SAY NOW I MISSED MY FLIGHT. ALL THE OTHER PLANES TILL THE NEXT EVENING WERE OVERBOOKED SO I SAT ALL DAY ON STANDBY WITH NO LUCK. BY THE TIME I GOT THERE NOW ID BE 2 OR 3 DAYS LATE, SO HERE I SIT IN OHIO VERY UNHAPPY TO SAY THE LEAST! DUE TO BUSINESS OBLIGATIONS THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD TRY WEEK 2. I AM SLIGHTLY HOPEFUL I CAN FIGURE SOMETHING OUT THIS YEAR, IVE BEEN THERE EVERY YEAR SO FAR, SOMETIMES TWICE A YEAR, AND JUST DOESNT SEEM RIGHT NOT GOING TO MOORE CREEK THIS YEAR. GOOD SIDE IS I DECIDED TO JUST GO OVER TO SOUTH BASS ISLAND SINCE I HAD TIME ON MY HANDS NOW AND TIE A GOOD ONE ON, AND ENDED UP WITH A POTENTIALLY LUCRITIVE BUSINESS CONNECTION. GOES TO SHOW THERE IS A GOOD SIDE TO EVERYTHING. AN EVEN BETTER SIDE IF I CAN STILL GET TO MOORE CREEK THIS YEAR! SEE YA, DAVE MAKKOS
  2. sawmill, thanks for the update! doc, he does look a bit hungry, dove offering? anyways your fortunate to have him around, they are usually a bit more reclusive. enjoy. dave makkos
  3. doc, looks like a coopers hawk to me, have seen several up close. definately not a north american red tailed hawk, i see them daily. i did just notice your post about the long tail. when the wings are tucked like your pics, if the ends of the wings are even with the end of the tail it would be a falcon. still, it looks a bit large for a falcon, and the wings dont look long enough. i'd say a coopers hawk. dave makkos
  4. hey steve, glad to hear the good news, how exciting. finally!! i knew the results would be positive. having made 5 trips to moore creek now since the first year, it has been amazing to watch all of this come together for you guys. cant wait to see and read the next chapter! congrats!! see you next june, dave makkos
  5. hi steve, well, that was mighty nice of your wife. glad to hear you will be able to hang around a couple days. sounds like it is going to be a fun trip. boy, you've been busy up there! good to hear the dozer is freed. i'll see you in about a week and a half, have a good trip up to the mine. dave makkos
  6. hey thanks you guys. it is quite a nice nugget. not my biggest from moore creek, but definately my favorite. steve, john, and dudley do have a heck of an operation going up at moore creek! every year camp gets a bit more comfortable. i agree with george the shower addition was nice! rob, i am going back this year for a second trip in a couple weeks, i believe it will be the same week as glenn. our vegas trip fell through so it left an opening for me to go again this year. i will email you about that coil. dave makkos
  7. hey steve, sounds like it is going to be an exciting year. the first to years were great, awesome times, awesome people, and lots of gold! sounds like the third year might be a charm. the nearly 1/2 pound of gold i found last year will be hard to top. i am ready to go, cant wait until the 5th! after talking to you the other day, i was so amped up that i have already packed and checked my list twice! moore creek here we come! see you in a few weeks, dave makkos
  8. GRUBSTAKE, ROB IS RIGHT, MY FATHER IS A RETIRED SUPERVISOR FROM THE MAIN POST OFFICE HERE IN CLEVELAND AND THE ONLY WAY YOU WILL GEY ANYWHERE WITH ANY SUCCESS IS TO GET A POSTAL INSPECTOR INVOLVED. I'VE BEEN ON SEVERAL TOURS OF THE MAIN POST OFFICE HERE IN CLEVELAND YEARS AGO AND HAVE SEEN FIRST HAND SOME OF THE NIGHTMARES, AND HAVE HEARD COUNTLESS STORIES FROM MY FATHER ABOUT MACHINES BEING MOVED AND THEY FIND 20 YEAR OLD LETTERS AND PACKAGES BEHIND THEM AND SO ON. THEY HANDLE ALOT AND ARE BOUND TO SCREW UP A FEW, ITS JUST THE ODDS. HOPE YOUR SITUATION GETS STRAIGHTENED OUT. AT LEAST YOU STILL KNOW WHERE YOURS IS! DAVE
  9. will do rob, ill be sure and contact you near the end of november so we can try and get it together. had great success at more creek finding almost a half pound, and i am anxious to see if my luck carries over to arizona this winter. you are lucky to be around the gold fields all year. have had a very successful summer of coinshooting and beach detecting with the x50 though, found several 1800 era coins this summer including an 1866 2 cent piece, and this week alone i have scored 7 rings at the beach. just keeping in practice. talk to ya soon, dave
  10. nice going rob, you seem to have a nose for those nuggets! just hope you leave a couple for me when i get out there this december. hope your still up for a hunt when i arrive.
