  1. Doc, 5 years ago, I saw one with extra coils go for $1500. At that time it might have been more typical for one to sell at about $1850. If they go for $2400 on ebay, more power to those sellers but in my opinion, that's insane. I second what Grubstake said. It's worth $1200 or $0, unless he want to take it to ebay I guess.
  2. Hey Bob, I know the one with houses you are talking about. The one I mean is the one with Sam's club right on it. That one fed Rose and the uber rich northern trib above the pipe that came down from the castle which was also built on gold ground. Most of the gravel is now under development or gone. You used to be able to see it right on the road cuts of the 69. I'm of the opinion that Lynx used to head north for a further distance than it does currently and got diverted by the advent of Glassford. Anyhow... We should hook up sometime. I checked out that trib you turned me onto across from "that one patch" and have some opinions.
  3. Bob, I think one of the main differences today vs. in years past is the development of the hilltop where Sam's Club is now. (wouldn't you like to know what happened to all those tons of precambrian gravel they took off the top of that hill?!!??) It's the same property but now it has development. Previously, when gold was say $250 per ounce, there might be no one there ever and now there are 20 cars parked after work on a weekday! I'm sure they'll shut it down if it keeps at this level. What I'd like to see is for them to open up a trail system on that creek similar to what they did on Lynx. It's private but there is a public trail. It's not like they can use it for anything and I don't think the Fains are particularly interested in the gold. I mean, they own the richest (documented) placer strike in the state just down from the dam. Those doodlebug diggin's are probably the reason why Rose is still pretty rich. I'm sure it paled in comparison to what they got out of Lynx back in the day. Just a few thoughts. BTW, anybody know why it's also called "Anderson Creek"?
  4. I haven't checked in awhile but last time I did (Yavapai Master Title Plats), that creek is partially in Fain Park (about to the first S turn) and the rest is mostly private, belonging to Fain Signature Group and then various individuals and corps and some State. Fain Sig also owns the park but has a deal with the city of PV. People have always prospected both sides of the bridge and it's been this way for years. Most folks just assume it's part of the park in since nobody every puts up a sign or tries to enforce trespassing laws... Substantial portions of Lynx above the bridge are private as well and the small BLM plot is currently under claim. It's not stopping anybody. Anyhow, I drove by both creeks on Stoneridge drive just the other day and wow, I've never seen so many cars parked there! All that said, I personally think it would be brutal and pretty typical if they just started handing out fines and confiscating property on the spur of the moment. If the property owner is concerned, they should just put up signs and let it be known first. That's what I would do, especially given the fact that they've done nothing, ever, as long as it's been there. For myself, you won't find me there. Lots of good gold in better places not mired in ambiguity. Meanwhile, the panning area in the forest has clean running water and almost nobody there ever.
  5. The first time I took the hipstick out was in a really remote hilly area where some good nugs had been found in a couple of gullies. It was so useless on those hillsides, a real hindrance. I just ended up tossing it under a rock for the day and if I hadn't of happened by that same spot on the way out, it would still be there. It would be o.k. in my opinion on flats only but I'd personally go without it there as well. It really gets in the way pinpointing, kneeling down etc. Totally cumbersome.
  6. Hey LeRoy, It will be an interesting experiment to find a bunch of patches with that crappy $900(!) detector. Clean them out really good for several years. Then, go buy a GPX and see how long it takes you to find $5000 out of those same patches and heck, throw in a few more new ones. Then you'll see what a nice deal you really got just now.
  7. It'll be a sad day if they ever discontinue all of that range in favor of digital. All the SD's and GP's will be highly sought after if that ever happens. I for one, hope they continue to improve that range. It would be so amazing if they would deign to spend more than a $100 in components for their audio circuitry though. I hate square waves.
  8. I've experienced my green unit go insane on occasion when it encounters interference that is very strong. It's like it gets stuck in that mode and doesn't want to go out. I had this happen once when I was detecting in a wash that had a section of heavy iron laden bedrock and a helicopter flew directly overhead. The detector went nuts and started to warble like crazy. It didn't stop even when I shut down and rebooted. I had a small precision screwdriver which had a slightly magnetized tip which I would use to tune the machine. I just touched the tip to the pot screw and the interference went away in an instant. Bizarre because as far as I know, the box is plastic and the pot screw doesn't connect to anything. Your mileage may vary.
  9. As many of you know, Sharlot Hall Museum in Prescott is a vital resource for placer gold research. The museum archives hold unique and irreplaceable clues in the search for gold and study of mining history which leads to finds. Arizona's Sharlot Hall Museum is a Prescott landmark and a vital revenue generator for the region. However, recent State budget cuts threaten the Museums viability -- and we need your help to make sure that we can continue to serve the community. --- The State has cut the Museums budget by nearly $100,000 already this year, and has indicated additional cuts -- totaling about a quarter of a million dollars -- for next fiscal year. --- Although were already significantly understaffed, well be forced to reduce payroll further. --- These cuts will result in fewer educational programs, reduced hours, and diminished services. All this adds up to a net loss for our community -- a community that depends heavily on tourism funds generated by organizations such as ours. --- To remain a meaningful cultural attraction and to contribute to the regions economy, Sharlot Hall Museum needs State funding restored. --- Please, PLEASE contact Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and State legislators with this vital message -- Restore funding for Sharlot Hall Museum. Thank you. ---- Contact Gov. Brewer: http://azgovernor.gov/contact.asp ---- Contact Arizona Elected Officials: http://www.azleg.gov.membershipRoster.asp
  10. Wow, that's a majorly nice piece. Big $$$$ there.
  11. Great Job. Good looking gold with some chevron characteristics.
  12. That made me laugh so hard. Thanks for posting that!
  13. Just wanted to let everyone know who doesn't know that our good friend Bob, a.k.a. 29 Prospector is going in for surgery today on his back. Let's all send him good wishes for a speedy recovery and return to the gold fields.
  14. You can always try Lynx Creek. It's a withdraw area, which means you won't step on anyone's claim. The trash is atrocious but nuggets can be found there as well and if you get tired, you can always break out a pan.
