  1. Very pretty nuggets. I'd create a location map of your finds for future reference to help piece the puzzle together... and buy a bigger excavator! Looks like a whole lot of fun you bought yourself there.
  2. Echo what Chris said. I spoke with Fisher a few days ago and they indicated that GB2s should start becoming available again at the end of April / beginning of May... they got wiped out by a huge order. I actually like to have both with me and decide which one to use when I get to my hunting spot... Like Ray, I have found areas where the GBPro is not bothered by hotrocks at all while the GB2 goes crazy. Then there are the areas where the GB2 can balance out certain types of rocks that keep the GBpro noisy. It's all about having the right tool for the job, but if I could only own one VLF, it would be the Pro. Not that the GB2 isn't more sensitive, it's because the Pro is a lot more versatile.
  3. HD, Some of the clubs with claims in the area are: Prospectors Club of Southern CA (PCSC), Taft Prospectors, OC 49ers, West End Prospectors and I'm sure there are a few others. But I think you will find most productive areas are under claim and the best way will be to join a club. I believe a family membership to the PCSC is $40.00 plus a one time initiation fee. Other clubs charge different amounts but nothing outrageous.
  4. Thanks for the kind words guys. Kind of came around full circle with my dad... when I was a kid back in the 60's I used to dig for him at the beaches and parks. He would use a BFO detector. He even found a diamond engagement ring with it once. Now he'll keep an eye on me and wander on over if he sees me digging in one spot too long. So, yes, it's a blessing to have him around at almost 80 years young to be out together prospecting.
  5. Hey guys, I don't get on the forum too much but it never gets old watching a nugget pop out:
  6. Word will get out and these shafts will sell themselves. I received mine a few weeks ago and sprayed it with clear lacquer to make it a little more uv resistant (now it has that ooh….. shiny factor to it!). No metal hardware in my body, but I know the carbon fiber will give a large coil that extra edge. These shafts are definitely a superior product at a very fair price. The story behind these shafts is that Herb is so guilt ridden about the family business (Browning Firearms) being responsible for half the lead spread around the countryside that he wanted to provide us with a product that would aid in the recovery effort. Job well done, Herb. You can sleep better now! And don’t be so hard on yourself....those guns saved a lot of American lives. Joe
  7. Don't know if you're interested in anything other than leather, but if you are there is a guy selling some cordura covers on his ebay store for a decent price. I just ordered one and am waiting for it, so I can't yet comment on quality or workmanship. But here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/Padded-Control-Box-Cover-With-Matching-Arm-Rest-Cover_W0QQitemZ260531377629QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3ca8e155dd Not sure I did the link right. If not, he goes by eureka-worx on ebay. Lucky Joe
  8. DocW The Prospector's Club of Southern California, or PCSC, has access to quite a few claims in SoCal. They are having a meeting this Friday night at 8pm. Meetings are held at the Downey Women's Club on Paramount Blvd and Florence Ave. There are quite a few people there with many years experience to talk to. Hope to see you there! Lucky Joe
