  1. talking about having your brakes go out back in the bush. I had an old jeep that broke a brake line and I lost all of my brake fluid. I was able to pinch off the line so it didn't leak but didn't have any brake fluid. So I filled the resivour with water and even bled them out. It worked good to get me home where I then drained the water and repaired my line and fixed them right. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to get home.
  2. One thing that I didn't see mentioned yet is that one of the best things that you can do is to have cons already washed and clear of any mud or junk before running it thru your machine.
  3. More than likely it is either mica or burnt quartz. It looks good but it has no weight so it won't hold in the pan or anything else you put it in to separate it.
  4. Since both of my knee's are metal I'm going with the extended shaft and trying to keep the coil out in front of me. That was the advice that I recieved from serval people here.
  5. Not to rain on your parade but tunneling into a bank like that is a real no-no. I know you got away with it and you thought that it was safe but it only has to be unsafe one time to kill you. My local club here in Idaho had a member lose his life in a hole not any bigger then that last year. So be very careful. Also thats not tailings you were looking at but rather cemented gravels from years of water packing it in. It was good gold though from just 3 buckets.
  6. Thanks for the answer Border Boy. I was hoping that I would be able to enjoy this hobby. Now if I can just get to where I can afford a nice detector I can get into the swing of things.
  7. Hi there I'm fairly new at this and this is really my first post asking a question. I would really like to do this but I feel like I may be handicapped at it because both of my knees have been replaced with titaum replacements. Does anyone know how having replacement metal knees will affect the metal detectors and is there one that is better to use? Thanks
  8. I am unable to get on it also and that wasa just a few minutes ago.
  9. I would need to know the size of the bullit. Looked big could be a 58 cal. minne ball they were made that way course you can still buy those so no way to tell the age.
  10. lost scout Hi I'm from Caldwell Idaho and am the vice-president of the Nampa Chapter of the GPAA. WE have people who like to metal detect and would probably be glad to help you out. We have serval claims up on Grimes Creek. With lots of information about the local area's I'm sure that we could point you in the right direction. Please PM me with furthur questions. Looking forward to hearing from you.
  11. You know I've been hunting, camping, and prospecting in SW Idaho for over 40 years and seen a total of 2 Mountain lions. Worry much more about rattlesnakes then lions. you just have to keep your situational awareness going.
  12. Hi there and welcome to the forum. I don't post much but since you are from Southwest Idaho then we are neighbors since I live in Caldwell. I don't do any nuggetshooting because I don't have a good enough detector for it. I do however pan, sluice, and highbank around here. I belong to the Nampa Chapter of the GPAA and we do have serval members who do detect. We meet the first Tuesday of every month in the cafe at the Shilo Inn in Nampa just off of Franklin Rd. You would be more than welcome to come to a meeting and talk to our members about their detecting adventures. Now most of the gold to be found around here is very fine there are some nuggets to be found. I myself found one the size of a BB at our last outing. It could have been found with a detector as it was in the first 6 inches of dirt that I scraped up. Also during that outing there were 4 other nuggets the same size found. We were just digging on a sandbar on the Boise River about a mile west of the city of Star. The club does have 7-8 claims most of them located around Grimes Creek going toward Idaho City also 3 up past Rocky Bar. So come visit us see if you like what you hear and see and join us if you like. Thanks just ask for Wayne
  13. Hey Chris I just recieved yuor book today. I'm already half way thru it and it reads wondeful. Lots of good information and easy to understand and relate to. Thank you very much. sincerely Wayne Evans aka Wingnutter
  14. Not to be a real jerk about it but there is a simple solution to your problemm. Take all of your unused medication that you have hanging around if you are like me you'll have plenty especially pain med's. roll it up in some nice hamburger then feed the beer unless of course you have some good grade poison availbile. No bear is worth putting my family into danger as that seems to be doing. If it has already broken into one house it will do it again. I hate the thought of poisoning anything but the bear is a real dager to you.
