  1. Oakwood - Your a Jackass Jet521 I want to thank and your wife for taking care of business. Your both welcome at my campfire anytime. I have been with Gary quite a bit sense this all started. When you opened your door to Stella and Alec it took a lot of stress off of Gary and Dorothy and I'm sure Stella and Alec. I hope it comes back to you 1000 fold. Words can not express the thanks you deserve,Matt
  2. That was a fun trip lots of brush to fight and lots of jokes to laugh at. We wil have to do it again soon Dam did it ever get hot in the middle of the day though. We were all fighting over the shade from the trucks. Take care,Matt
  3. Nice one Chuck!! Hopefully there are many more to come.
  4. Nice gold Matt!!!!!! It pisses me off that the california state quarter dosen't have a miner on it. Should of had John Muir panning under half dome. That would make the Nature Nazi's happy Take care,Matt
  5. Frist of all I would like to say nice new look Rob! Eveything is back to normal around here no firefighters for 3 days. Had to get some R&R so on friday I went to the river with Vini. Didn't do much but float around in the river and get a sun burn and O'ya and help Vini get his truck unstuck.
  6. Took a drive around last night to see if anyone needed help. Looks like the old ladys house made it but the old mill didn't. That old mill was put up in the 30's could of got it up and running pretty easy. Kid Saxtons mine got burned but his inprotant stuff made it. I think his mine is now in better shape than before no more brush to fight. Still trying to put the house back together looks like we have been robbed. In the mad rush to get the valuebales out stuff got strung everywere. It is amazing the wildlife that is coming around I put water out for the big critters. We must have 100 to 150 quail coming around, were before the fire only a dozen or so.Looks like water is going to be hard to come by around here until it rains. Take care,Matt
  7. I have been living with all the personal that is fighting this fire for the last week. This is what they have told me. Fire started from two guys target shooting in the Merced river canyon. They tryed to put it out but it got away from them. They then got to a phone and called 911. Saturday it burned 16,000 acers that is the seond fastest burning fire in Mariposa countys history. Today the fire is 90% contained, 35,000 acers burned,21 houses burned most of them within 1/2 mile from my place some I watched burn nothing we could do. some of them were in the middle of the fire storms and to are amazment were still standing in the morning.I'm assuming they were the ones with a lot of clearance. Take care,Matt
  8. Ya Grub if the road would of been open 3 days earlyer I would of had alot of meat to put on the grill. The firemen got to eat well around my place no power to keep the frige on. So I was feeding them all I could. The bears got the rest last night. After it was all over I'm 15 pounds lighter! But now that the wife is back it will surely be put back on. take care,Matt
  9. Reno Chris-The fire never got to burn any of the bush at the mine so it looks like I will be doing more clearing this winter. One thing I can't stress enough is clear a area around your house at lest 100 feet it will help a lot if a fire ever makes it to your area. I watched houses that I thought for sure were going to burn that had the proper clearance we couldn't fight the fire at some of these and they were still standing in the morning. I have to tell this story,Monday eve. I was standing in a fire brake above my house when a little fox ran up to me and dropped at my feet the poor little guy must of run a few miles that day, anyway I gave him a drink out of my cantein he swallowed it down and got up and walked away he turned and gave me a little bark and he was off. All is well,Matt
  10. I'm sitting here with the generator running thinking about what to write in this fuzzy state of mind I'm in, so here goes. The fire got into my neck of the woods on Saturday lost alot of homes between 12 noon and 9pm that night. The fire was staring us down at my house at 7p.m that night me and 8 fire fighters keep it from buning down my house. Then we fought it over into French Camp by sunday night. I came back to the house and felt like I was out of danger. Then at about 5 p.m monday night a fire crew showed up and told me that the fire was now coming over the hill towards my place again. So back up the hill we went by this time there was no way 5 guys with hand tools were going to stop it so they called in for a dozer and as luck would have it there was already one sitting at the end of my drive way. Up he came he cut a 20 foot wide path on the upper end of my place and we were abile to stop it there by tuesday morning. Walking back to my house I relized I had not taken off my boots in 4 days I gess I was running on adrinalin. I slep all day tuseday and worked with the mop up crue on wensday putting out hot spots. The fire fighters move out today and pg&e and the phone company moved in. All will be back to normal soon. People ask me why I stayed when there was a mandatory evacuation? Those that know me would not ask this question but,for those that don't here is my answer. This is my home I have roots here a lot of blood and swet have gone into this place and I will be damed if I'm going to walk away and not give it my all to stop it from burning. I want to thank the men and women who are fighting this fire are risking there lives to save are homes they are strangers to us and I feel that someone would do that for me is welcome at my camp fire anytime. Thank you Cal Fire,Matt
  11. Dam Grub it was hotter than Paris Hilton's G-string out there today. Why do you want to go detecting in that heat? I don't think Doc will warranty a melted coil do you? Have to get together this week and go out. Need a break from building picks I'm starting to dream about them I will call you this week,Matt
  12. Invest in a mortar and pestle crush the rock to at lest 30 mesh (same as a window screen) and then pan it out carefully. Assays are for big mining companies were you have a lot of samples. One or two assays are not a good indicator of your values. It takes a lot of them to get a average of your ore. They will tell you if there is gold and silver in your rock. Instead of a assay you might what to have a Spectrograph Analysis done if you are only doing a sample or two. It will tell you what all the minerals are in your rock. Not just gold and silver. That way you might find that your ore contain values other than gold or silver. Hope this helps,Matt
  13. Wow, you guys have done a lot of work since the last time I was there!!!!!
  14. Sorry Chuck must of been thinking of Chris's detector. Didn't mean to hurt your Gold Bugs feelings Take care,Matt
  15. Thought I should let you all know the Kid finds his gold with a old beat up Gold Bug and a Whites GMT. Most of this ore won't even make a wisper on my 4000.
