  1. Hi Redz, Rx gain may contribute to power consumption but would be hard for most to see any difference. I would think the way it would consume more power is the Rx is now receiving more signals and therefore using more power through the audio circuit. From what I understand its the amount of targets/noise that the coil picks up which will determine power drain, that is considering both large and small coil are wound with the same resistance and inductance requirements on the same machine type. My suggestion is try not to be concerned about the power drain of coil sizes when making a decision on what coil to use, base your decision on the terrain and possible depth of targets in the ground i.e: lots of small stuff shallow = small to medium coils : looking for larger targets in deeper ground = medium to larger coils I hope this helps. Trevor
  2. Hi Garikfox and this is a good question. The short answer is not really - in terms of the windings in the coil. The detector requires a certain inductance and resistance from the coil for it to work correctly and no matter what size of coil it is the requirement is the same. The amount of turns will differ between the different size coils i.e: smaller coils require more turns to reach the same inductance and larger require less turns but the specifications are the same for the inductance and resistance required. Inductance is a function of turns and resistance is a function of gauge of wire. The main thing that draws more current and drains power is the amount of noise the coil has to interpret and becomes audio for us to hear. the more ground noise, EMI, target noise etc the more the detector works and requires more power. I guess with larger coils they have to deal with more of all this due to their area so they may drain more current however a smaller coil is more responsive so again may drain more power than a larger one due to more response If we placed an 18" coil vs a 6" coil on a GPX say and both had full batteries and they were still and no interference (quite environment) then they may just spend the same amount of time running or would be quite close in run time. BTW i have never tried this test but this is my thoughts. There may be other circumstances and people who may have more information here but for me its more about amount of targets that drains power and not coil size. I hope that provides some insight for you. Trevor.
  3. Hello to all! Just wanted to let you know we have released the second edition of the Master class videos on the SDC coils... maybe if you are interested in the coils and want to know more about them please watch the videos. They are designed to help people make an informed decision if they wish to purchase one. I hope it helps!
  4. No problems Rob and further to this we are now releasing Coiltek Master Class videos to help users understand more about the coils. This is the first of 5 in the series on the Gold Extreme coils and if anyone has a question on them they can chat with Rob or myself any time!
  5. In regards to the cable up the shaft this is not an option for our coils plus to change out coils all the time like this on the SDC will be difficult to some degree as at the elbow of the shaft there is a tight corner for the plug to get around and our strain relief on the plug it too large. Its far easier to go around the shaft like the GPX type. Thanks for the suggestions though! Always keen to hear what other options are out there in peoples heads...
  6. Yes waterproof coils are on the radar. What would be your preferred size if you had a choice?
  7. Hi All, I just thought I would post up a few finds that we are being sent by users of the new coils just so you can see that they are performing quite well. They provide any SDC users with some more options for coverage depth and maneuverability and use the SDC performance abilities to hopefully get more gold from those patches you have been to where the standard coil did very well. Now the new coil sizes are not designed to perform the same as the 8" size as they are different however there may be some abilities you will notice that will be of benefit. larger coils provide more depth and coverage so the 11" and 14x9" sizes will be great there and the smaller 10x5" size is very sensitive and can hit the same and potentially smaller targets than the standard. Another benefit of the shaft attachment we have created is that the coils now become center mount so can be better balanced, the extra shaft section makes the unit better for taller people as it is 4-5 inches longer and the detector can now lay flat with the coils so it doesn't tip over. There has been some queries in regards to the warranty and I can assure you that as long as you follow our procedure to fit the coil you will find it very simple and easy and have no affect on Warranty. There are just 5 screws to undo and this is exactly how a customer or Minelab would do it if the standard ever needed changing. The standard coils are just plugged in like any GPX or GPZ coil so once you undo the coil plug its just plug and play after the shaft install so there is no 'void of warranty' by plugging another coil in. I am interested to hear how they are going for those that may have them or if you are thinking about it feel free to ask any questions of either myself or Rob Allison here.
  8. Thanks for posting this info Rob... Do many use DD coils still in the US for gold hunting. I think this might be a good one for the relic hunters... Also be a good one for the older GP series too! Trev
  9. Hi Andyy, In regards to the label peeling back we are addressing this - We apologise for the unsightly look! I can assure you we are working with the label company to have this rectified. In the meantime please provide me your mailing address to my email and i will get them to you. Trev
  10. Hey Rob and all. We are also including a Free COILTEK camo hat and tote bag in each of our Elite coils... They are in the box. Looking forward to seeing some good Christmas gold! Enjoy your prospecting all Trev
  11. Hey Californiagold. Email me your mailing address and I'll get a few Stickers in the mail to you! Ctmenquiry@coiltek.com.au We have made adjustments to the later batches to help keep the sticker from peeling back. Glad to hear you like the coil! Trevor
  12. Hey Rob, Hope those who get an ELITE enjoy the performance... Here's a video of a 3 ouncer from Western Australia Cheers Trev
  13. Hi Rabbitt, The 6" GOLDSEEKER as of November 1st 2013 have been made Fully Submersible/Waterproof. You can check on our website for more info on this: http://coiltekmanufacturing.com.au/6-goldseeker.html We now have all of our 6" , 10x5" , 12x8" , 15" , 40x20" coil range all Fully submersible... the 6" and 10x5" sizes are the latest to have this upgrade! Let me know if i can help further. Regards, Trevor @ Coiltek
  14. Hey Rob and all! I cant agree more, it was a great coil back when they were available... Now we are pleased to once again provide this small coil option!. Great for the 60kHz setting... Yes your right nvchris.. works on all those XT machines too... Testing this out in the field impressed all of us and its ability to handle the hotter ground we were in was a great attribute. The 10x5" handled it but had more of a chatter and instability on the swing whereas the 6" was smoother and no falsing. We are looking forward to hearing how they go in the market! I hope to have a video on them soon on our Youtube Channel to show their performance capabilities. Best of luck to all! Regards, Trevor
