  1. After 50 years of sharpening knives for fishing and hunting I just use a diamond steel and give the knife a few strops to make them sharp as a razor. I also have Shun knives. The steel will take an edge with very little effort. You can use the finer stones to make them razor like but not necessary for the kitchen IMO.
  2. Minelab GPX4500 with extra coils, one battery, harness and Sennheiser headphones. One extra swing arm. Harness and charging cables for home and car. ML 10" DD coil. 8" Commander mono coil. 18" GP Extreme coil in DD. 6" mono ML coil. Sent to Minelab last year for a checkup and all was good. $1900. 480-620-2853.
  3. Ivan- how do your handles hold up? The first one on the website looks like ash, the next 3 look like fir or pine and the last one looks like oak. Oak and ash are good but pine and fir are soft woods. Let me know. Thanks.
  4. Rob- I will call you on the 4500 package. Just very nervous about the fakes so I can't buy on ebay. I figure the 4500 new will do whatever I need it to. Thanks.
  5. Thanks. I am thinking that finding a good deal on a 5000 is the smart play.
  6. After the crash I had to sell my ML 4000. Ready to get going again finally. I have seen great buys on used GPX5000 lately and now the GPX4500 is back. Is there really much difference in the two? I have seen 5000s go for as low as $2700 but was not ready to buy. Anyway I have gotten fatter and need to lose some weight and I know just the hobby to do that.
  7. When I was 62 I was almost up to Turkey creek from the south and hit steep hill all rutted out. Coming back my rear tire slipped off the downhill side and it was a 60 degree drop. Stood up on the quad and gave it a little gas. The front lifted up and I fell down the hill. Looked up at the quad balanced on the rear wheels just as it came down on top of me. Sheared my holster in half, cracked my left hip and a couple of ribs. The welded gun rack saved my life bit it was a painful ordeal. My Honda landed on the tires at the bottom after rolling. I figured out I could move through the blasting pain and I crawled down and got on the quad. Started right up and I rode to my truck and had a cold beer. I did not have insurance at the time so no doctor for me. Walked funny for two months and the hip still hurts once in a while. I guess it is hard to kill us old guys. :-)
  8. Besides not knowing how to spell "hoarder" and getting the wrong amendment he is also wrong about how to run a business. His company is facing a reality that was caused by the likes of Feinstein and Pelosi. People who watched the bogus piece on 60 minutes and heard Feinstein say she would wait until the time was ripe then push her gun control agenda. The cause is real but in reality the people of America are not buying in to the gun control lobby and support is at an all time low for gun control or we would already have it from the new leaders. As far as business is concerned if they are worried about collapsing they should be investing every profit dollar in a reserve for future adjustments in their business model. I have done my share of hoarding and am glad I have a safe full for me and my grandson. Not so worried about the government but the threat of riots down the road when people realize their standard of living has been sold to China to get us in line for the world economy. Anyone who thinks we can bring the standard of living up for the "have nots" without bringing the exact amount down for the "haves" is dumber than a rock.
  9. Nummie and I are fishin' tomorrow then out for a little prospecting saturday if you want to hang and dig around.
  10. I think I just sold all my guns and thousands of rounds of ammo to a guy named Bill at the last gun show. No need to worry about me at all. Too much time digging in the dirt just temporarily affected my thinking I guess. I will comply with the new laws and lay down to let the boot go on my neck. I will just stand by and allow my neighbors and friends to get hauled off in the night for having unmarked ammo and illegal guns. I am going to be a model citizen for my master Obama. I feel better now.
  11. The second was never about hunting or target shooting. Our founding fathers hunted for subsistence and did not waste ammo and powder. They would never understand that lame arguement. It was all about the citizens being armed in order to fight a tyrranical government. I just bought another thousand rounds and we were practicing with those nasty black rifles. Store some food, fuel, medicines, guns and ammo. Liberty has demanded way too many lives to let a populist movement of kool aid drinkers take it from us. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
  12. For the last few years you had to have the regular road license to use the main forest roads but not for the trails. We were stopped by the Forest Service for crossing a dirt main road to get to the trails on a turkey hunt so I know that is the case. We put on brake lights and a mirror and got ours licensed. Now we have to buy the new tag for all trails that are open to ATV.
  13. My grandson is almost 5 and is my detecting and fishing buddy. I haven't darkened the door of a church for 40 years but I just said a prayer and asked my dad to help out. Will be pulling for the little guy.
