  1. Yea, I too stopped wearing spandex and leather years ago, Commando is the only way to go. Please NO snake jokes, I heard them all in P.E. class. Digdeep, Hey, if you are working a patch can you run a small generator and flood lights off the back of your truck? Tony Teixeira
  2. Matt, I am thinking of purchasing a Platypus to hunt some tributaries that will be running slow pretty soon, starting to lean towards the DD for I will be on bedrock and may want to discriminate once in a while.... but if I do not use iron reject with the DD coil, is it almost as sensitive as the mono coil or is the mono a lot more sensitive? Thanks Tony Teixeira
  3. Thanks for clearing that up for me.... By the way, 14" Round Goldstalker? I never seen one advertised. What are they going for? Tony
  4. Hey Rob, Little confused here, That D3 coil Trevor used was a DD and when I asked if he plans to build mono coils he said "Tony: Great souvenier indeed. The Goldstalkers are already in MONO." so I assume no change in the MONO design. So when you say "Trev mentioned during his visit to Arizona that the new coils have much better shielding that helps elliminate EMI" this would only apply to the new DD coil since the MONO Goldstalker will remain the same. Am I understanding this right? Thanks Tony
  5. Flak, Your turn to pick a topic! I wish DigDeeps question on Specific vs General would have received my feedback, I thought in OZ it would have had more. I know I will have more questions next week. Are you down in SoCal with DigDeep? Tony
  6. DigDeep, Yea, I guess if you were in an area where the EMI stayed at constant frequency or without much variance the AUTO TUNE would get you to a great reference channel to hunt in, but if you had a variable change in frequencies all the time it would not help. Maybe that's why Montana and QLD Sandy hunt with the manual tune highlighted in their menu. Well, I enjoyed this topic and I hope to play around with settings this weekend, I am hoping to see more of a consistency as Flak did. Boy, that EMI must be KILLER on the larger sensitive aftermarket coils....lol. Take care! Tony
  7. Flak, WOW! That's cool that you can notice a difference, especially if it's for the better. No I am not seeing it the post for the reason why, but I do see where Spinifex say's "I think the text book version would be to stay in fixed whilst auto tuning". Is that what you mean? I think I will setup a mode like "test A" with a FAST MOTION, HIGH GAIN, FIXED and anything else that makes the detector supseptible to EMI and use that mode for startup with AUTO TUNE. Hey next time post a nugget! I am the one in charge of posting wire, lead and BB's. Take Care! Tony Teixeira
  8. DigDeep, Yep, the area I was in did not need SPECIFIC, I was just playing with the detector and wanted to try it. The part I don't understand yet is why the initial specific ground balance must be done with the GB switch and not the Quick-Track button, I always thought the Quick-Button switch was hard wired. My only guess is that the Quick-Button switch is switching modes via software....... anybody know? So if you are setup in SPECIFIC GB, can you re-ground balance with the quick-track button or does that only work in GENERAL GB? Thanks Tony Teixeira
  9. Hi Flak, Yep, that's what I am getting at. You know I think with all these whistles and bells I need to break my detector into modules so to speak like in programming, I call this one the "eliminate EMI" module, lol. Hmmmm, It would be nice to know what functions impact EMI going into the machine before any filters impact the data, I don't know if FIXED has an impact at this point, I was thinking MOTION, GAIN..... maybe the STABILIZER? At least I would think MOTION and GAIN would make the detector very susceptible to EMI and would be set high before AUTO TUNE. Hopefully someone will chime in. Tony
  10. Hey Everyone, What I often do is pick up my 4500 manual and read the same section even if I just read it a week ago, I always seem to pick up on something I previously missed, take the AUTO TUNE feature. In the GPX-4000 manual it states “If AUTO TUNE is not working well in SLOW or VERY SLOW MOTION, try selecting MEDIUM setting†In the GPX-4500 manual it states “Any interference is made more obvious with a faster motion setting. Therefore, you can assist the AUTO TUNE function in selecting the quietist frequency band by selecting FAST MOTION before performing the AUTO TUNE process.†Question #1. Why was the FAST MOTION setting not recommended in the 4000 manual? Question #2 What about GAIN, would you not want you’re GAIN to be set to (20) when performing an AUTO TUNE? Thanks Tony Teixeira
  11. LL, Yep, that one patch has been hit hard by everyone, PI's and VLF's, and all shape and size coils, but yet you know their is still many nice nuggets under that tall grass. Nuggetslayer, I feel your pain..... lol Well as everyone said already, CONGRATULATIONS! Tony
  12. Doc, Ok, you made me feel better, I am guessing the reason that Minelab did not make submersible coils is because the control box in not waterproof and I can see many boxes getting wet and needing repair....... or maybe its a totally different reason. Rob, Yep, there are lot's of pockets in the bedrock out here to play in. Grubstake, Since we have quite a bit of trash in the beds, I can spend all day in a small, small area picking out small tacks and stuff so I am leaning towards a DD coil. I am guessing you have the DD coil and if so do you ever discriminate? Thanks Tony
  13. Since I am mostly around gulches and tributaries to rivers I have been thinking about trying a Coiltek Platypus but I am leery about actually submerging the coil, I am hoping to get some feed back from people who have used the Platypus and get their opinion on this coil. I used it's cousin the Joey and I really liked the sensitivity of the Joey. Thanks Tony Teixeira
  14. Way to go Trevor!! That is awesome, what a souvenir to take home with you! Will Coiltek be making the D3 in a mono version? I just started playing with DD coils lately and am curious how that big nugget sounded at only 8 or 9 inches deep in discrimination mode...... did it also sound sweet but LOUD? Once again! WOO HOO! and Congratulations! Tony Teixeira
  15. Hi Matt, GREAT STORY! Good thing you went with your gut feelings. Your story is sure an inspiration to dig all targets, Congratulations and thanks for sharing. Tony Teixeira
