  1. Enig. Eng., (Still a newbie here also...) If you're diggin' for the source of a signal and can't seem to find it (and you think that it might be trash) you simply expose the magnet to your diggin's to pull out that nail or wire or...trash. With a "super" magnet sitting on your pick (without a holder) you can dig like a dog before that magnet has moved much from one end of the pick to the other. 'Hope that helps! Jeff
  2. Hmmmm... Upgraded...new features...? Click on "View New Posts" and here's a portion of the "New Posts"; function check_access($i) { $can_read = FALSE; $i['read_perms'] = isset($i['read_perms']) ? $i['read_perms'] : NULL; if ( $this->ipsclass->check_perms( $i['read_perms'] ) == TRUE ) { $can_read = TRUE; } else { $can_read = FALSE; } $i['password'] = isset($i['password']) ? $i['password'] : NULL; if ( $i['password'] != "" and $can_read == TRUE ) { if ( $this->ipsclass->forums->forums_compare_password( $i['id'] ) == TRUE ) { $can_read = TRUE; } else { $can_read = FALSE; if( $i['password_override'] ) { $bypass_groups = explode( ",", $i['password_override'] ); $my_groups = array( $this->ipsclass->member['mgroup'] ); if( $this->ipsclass->member['mgroup_others'] ) { $my_groups = array_merge( $my_groups, explode( ",", $this->ipsclass->clean_perm_string( $this Hey Rob, you wanna buy a bridge? I think a little tweak here and maybe over here...(we know that it's not your fault).
  3. Hi Rob! ('Coming to you from a nice hotel room in Vegas...) If the forum is just shy of 3000 registered members then why are the member numbers so high? "5150", for example, joined on 4/08/08 and has a member number of 17,500+. 'Just wondering 'Call you tomorrow (Wednesday) regarding my Minelab visit. Oh...I did find a much larger nugget after you left
  4. I don't need these items but, to help the rest of us keep what we have, would you mind telling us what you did (or didn't do) that allowed it to be stolen? Was it intown or in the field? Was a weapon used (in case you need an out here)?
  5. That's a happy lookin' pair of Dians! Was this taken when you arrived at the field? I thought it was approaching the 100 degree mark out there. These girls are lookin' pretty fresh and dry for high temps. They're accustomed to a humid heat though. Was the Dian (on the left) using an external speaker? Yep, they look pretty happy!
  6. Thanks for the reply, JP (also for the correction of my spelling)! Unfortunately(?) I have a well-criticized 4000 (from Rob) rather than one of the 4500's (apparently from heaven). 'Just thought that it might be worth the time to make the request in case they (the settings) might also apply to the 4000.
  7. Are those settings of JP's copywrited or would you mind sharing them? Thanks!! Jeff H.
  8. Allright, no more lurking...(thanks for the push. Rob)... When Rob speaks I listen. When Steve H. speaks I drool with envy and jot down some of his points. When Grubstake writes I wish that we were sitting in front of a fire so I could ask all of the "stupid" questions and pick his brain becuase I know that he won't laugh AT me but, would respond with years of experience and the willingness to share it. When a member who joined yesterday writes I find myself a bit relieved because I've wondered the same thing (that they have asked) and I CAN RELAXE knowing that someone WILL answer it. That answer moves another member to respond with additional help. When JP writes it's often to share information and/or experience(s) that gets many to talking...thinking. (I know JP from THIS forum and some of his dvd's. My wife knows JP from his dvd's. Our two miniature dachshunds know JP from the time his dvd's keep me from spending more time with them). When JP's naysayers write on this forum it gets a lot of the more knowledgeble people to writing. Thus, more knowledge and experience is shared. It's ALL good!! Perhaps the best aspect of these challenges is how professionally (and maturely) the people on this forum deal with those from 'outside' the Nuggethunting Forums. Just when you expect someone to tell someone else to go shove their detector (if they own one) you members gang together and wow the opposition with years of greatness that, if challlenged, makes the person (with the hidden detector) unable to respond with much more than jibberish and childish threats and inuendoes. The continuing arguement of trickle technology is like arguing the answer to Pi. Steve says it best; maybe you can't buy the best existing technology but, you can buy the best technology that is offerred and for sale. I have a 4000 that will very shortly see the goldfields for the first time. Is it the best? No, perhaps not but, assuming I can take full advantage of all that it has to offer, it will give me an advantage over most and of the thousands of square miles that have been scanned I know that it will probably seek deeper, etc., than those (most) that have been there before me. The Earth is constantly changing. The ground is ever moving. Today is not the same as yesterday and never will be. Scan the same field with a different attitude and the findings, I believe, will be reflect that attitude.
  9. Hi Tool!! Is that 44 lbs. or POINT 44 lbs.? Did you find that in a pit around 'home'. I've read about Michigan copper but, not in your area? (I'll send you a PM to let you know what's goin' here). Jeff H.
  10. As my wife says when I show her my find from an arrowhead search..."pointy rock".
  11. Keep your eyes open for Steve doing commercials promoting Nike's new line of snowshoes! 'Glad it's happening for you! You're living the dream for many. I'm thinking seriously about signing up for a week or two with you next summer. Well, by then you might not have the time or desire for all of this prospectin' stuff and wallowing in the mud.
  12. whats4supper, I'll listen and talk to anyone that appreciates both the blues AND Arlo Guthrie (and his dad, Woody). BTW Arlo G. will be playing in AZ this month (24, 25, 26) on his "Reunion Solo" tour. I trust that you also saw the movie of 'Alice's Restaurant'. Regarding your tree-hugger diatribe; I'm not one to cut down a tree just for the helluvit. Afterall, it's alot of work to deal with a 40'-50' tree AFTER it's down. I would REALLY like someone to respond to you and defend or express the opposing view!! I'll vote for you on the anti-treehugger ticket. 'Curious about your vacc.. I recently finished building one with an Echo. How is it a little 'buggy'? Do you have any problems with the air filter clogging quickly? Thanks for your tips/hints as well as to you AzNuggetBob. Oh, what did you use as a filter inside of the bucket? As far as the corrugated hose goes...without the spiral wire for structure and support (which of course forms the corrugations) you would have to have a much heavier-walled (and weighted) hose, wouldn't you? Either way, some static will be created and cause some sticking of the finer gold within (my opinion and experience when using as a dirt and sawdust sucker). 'In AZ the end of the week! 'Got 8" of snow a couple of days ago. Jeff H.
  13. The trick to those times when you feel that you were just a little behind in remembering to do or say something is...each time you find it happening look at the timing compared to the last similar situation. You'll probably find that the period that it takes you to realize that you screwed up is lessening. Eventually you will discover that you have remembered in time to correct a mistake that hasn't happened yet...and you are living life along with everyone else. Some time ago I saw a TV show ('think it might have been a series about the forces of Nature on the Learning Channel) about lightning glass and how the heat created by the lightning bolt striking the earth liquifies the silica into molten glass. It cools below ground in shapeless forms often many feet long with branches like a tree root. More valuable than gold? When have you ever seen one? 'Far more valuable than most meteorites. Glad to hear that you had a successful trip! (Did the "old miner" slowly leave with an aged, wornout-looking, nearly over-burdoned burro in tow? Did they both sortof fade into the brush and sand?)
  14. Hold on there buckaroo!! "they gave me some good info....one of which was there are 28 different things in the desert as valuable (or more) than gold, lightning strike glass, etc." You can't just leave us hangin' here like you have a crimped old, unusually heavy gun shell (possibly containing gold dust) that you are not going to open for several days! Tell us a few (or all) of the 28 different things that you can remember. I wouldn't care HOW much whining the wife was doing, if you meet some old coot who'd spent 40 years in the desert (and you're lookin' for spots and he isn't too threatening) I'd stop the world, offer him a cold one, sit down, and listen.
