  1. Rob, Just popped in and read about the lost of your Grandmother, my condolences & prayers go out to you & your family. wonderer
  2. Terry, Love your posts...........You just like to give a person a dose of reality & some people need a BIGGER dose than others. wonderer
  3. grubstake, Hope you get a cool overcast day so its not so hot.....Sounds like a good spot.......Good Hunting. wonderer
  4. ChickenNugget, I've not owned the GMT but I have owned the one before it..There the same size..I found the controls confusing & the unit heavy + overly touchy. I find the Tesoro Lobo Super TRAQ lighter & the controls easer to use + it breaks down easier to transport & the coil is waterproof. Fieldtest report: http://www.tesoro.com/info/fieldtests/current/lobost/ Since the price of gold has gone up, the # of people thinking of quick easy money (after watching the gold show channel). They go out and highgrade on other peoples hardearned claims. In all truth only 10% or less ever pay for their detector, headphones, pick, shovel, gas & wear&tear on your vehicle by finding gold. ITS A HOBBY . A money pit for most. Honestly instead of buying a metal detector & accesories ( if you think the MD's are expensive ).....go and buy a gold coin...you'll come out ahead. Here is the most honest recommendations by Steve Herschback: (read the top sticky post) http://www.akmining.com/forums/showthread.php/13-Latest-Nugget-Detector-Recommendations-For-Alaska wonderer
  5. Well anybody would be stupid to post a big find until they were through cleaning it out.......And then, is it ever realy cleaned out. Probley only if you are on bedrock. With all the High Tech GPS trackers that can be hidden on vehicles, ATVs to track them and record where they went. You don't have to physicly track them anymore. So why brag & paint a target on yourself. Also why give up a gold spot where if a better metal detector comes out that goes deeper, you go back and hit it again....As many of the diehard prospectors here do. And good for them ! wonderer
  6. dog runner, There are quite a few boots out there with out metal in them....WalMart had the "detectorest" at one time...think I payed $30 for them at the time..when I had the ML 3500. Many jobs have walkthrough metal detectors, so the demand for metal free boots or shoes has gone up. Airports, goverment buildings, schools & high end metal detectors, just to name a few. wonderer
  7. ChickenNugget, Joining a prospecting club with claims is the first thing to do as a nubie, most gold areas have claims on them & you can't prospect or MD on them. Alot of dealers will give you some training in the field...As Terry said practicing with differant targets helps....also the mineralisation from area to area changes so you must adjust for the variations in soil types. Check to see if your area has detectable nuggets...some areas have fine gold only. Are you getting a good set of headphones, a good pick....also be sure to get a coil cover for each coil you own to protect them. Good Luck....on your adventure............wonderer
  8. ChickenNugget, If you want deep, go Minelab PI...but expect to pay $ Both models you mensioned have reviews and field reports at the manifactures individule sites...Also some of the gold prospecting magazines have reviews & field reports to. Did you use the search function to check the arkives here & other gold forums for information on those machines? If you think these are expensive, try a used one, there about 1/2 the price. wonderer
  9. Well maybe the illegals will get mad enough they will boycott AZ. ........works for me. wonderer
  10. Dakota Slim, Was at a friends house (Phoenix area) and was sitting in a chair...felt a slight dizzyness & then waves (three or four)....if I'd been standing I probley would'nt have felt it. wonderer
  11. Well Rob it took about 45 seconds for the reply page to come up.....which even for dailup is slow.............I guess I should'nt complain I'm retired & everyday is saturday......... ..........just my two cents wonderer
  12. You guys are going about it all wrong........Just throw acouple of tree huggers in the shed & put a trail of bacon to the shed. It gives the bear a new years snack & the tree huggers helped feed the animals (a great humanitarian end). If tree huggers weren't avalibale use a politician, though the bear probley would get indegestion. wonderer
  13. Doc your mistake was you should have written the Mexican goverment to get that book or pamflate on how to best take advantage of the American health & welfare system for free, pay no taxes to the IRS (in other words get a 50% raise in your income) & how you go about getting your green card.............. Use the emergency room as your health care provider $500 to $1000 dr. office visits... wonderer
  14. Dam it better have a backhoe attached to it, going that deep + it sould come with some cribing to keep the hole from caving in on you wonderer
  15. Rob, Its happened to me to...but I'm a slow typer & figured it had just timed out before I could put on a long post...... To work around the issue: I post and then edit it to add to it ....but I'm a clutz on the computor. wonderer
