Gold on Quartz

Recommended Posts

Haven't posted for a while so I thought I would post this.

No Story to tell, just got around to soaking a rock in acid. Before and after photo. ( weight after soak was 25 grams )

Luck on your next hunt, Chuck

Nice looking piece. I have one soaking right now also. Did you leave the remaining quartz on for a reason or did the acid weaken? Mine

has slowed down a lot.

Hi Matt

I let the rock soak for four days, on the fourth day it still looked like it did on the third day. So I added fresh acid and let it soak for another day. Yes I did leave some quartz on it purposely.

Take Care, Chuck

What type of acid did you soak your specimen in? I'm unfamiliar with various acids used to soak quartz in to reveal the gold as you did, and would hate to use the wrong solution. Colorado doesn't give up specimens like you've shown.
