I need input prior to buying a new coil for my GPX 5000. I prefer the 14" elliptical coils and have used the Coiltek and Nugget Finder Advantage. The Coiltek was very good until it wore out after a couple years, to the point it was so erratic it was unusable. Afterwards I tried the Nugget Finder and found it to be better than the Coiltek on smaller nuggets but within the warranty it also failed to the point it was not usable. the Nugget Finder warranty was great, the coil was replaced, but the second coil was not near as stable as the first was originally. Now the second coil is not usable so I need to buy another. I would interested in hearing from other nugget hunters and the coils they prefer.

I like the new Coiltek Elite Mono 14" coil, fantastic depth on gram size nuggets, sensitive to small grain size gold also, much sharper signal response than most coils on fringe targets. Only drawback is its a heavy coil, so be prepared and try to stick with flat ground detecting as steep hillsides are a killer with this coil. I cannot wait to get back to Nevada in the next couple weeks to give it a go again. Incliment weather ran us out in June on our third day out, had to postpone a second trip the first of July due to thunderstorms, now its looking like last week of July or first week in August is a go. We did some indepth testing of this coil in June in camp with a 1.3 gram nugget in ground with a 4000, a 5000, and a 3500, we were able to get a repeatable decent signal on that nugget at 13" in Nevada soil with my 4000 running a standard gpx battery. No gold yet but I fully expect to find some next trip. there are plenty of positive reviews on this new coil on the aussie sites since they have had it on the ground longer than we have here. Its not coming off my Gpx any time soon.

Hello Local Digger,

I also have used both the 14-inch versions of the CT and NF and also sell them. I had great success with both of them over the years with the GPX 5000 and prior models.

The new hot coil right now is the "Coiltek 14-inch Round Mono Camo Elite" like Mxt Sniper mentioned. For a bit it was a struggle to keep them in stock, but I finally have some in stock. Users are finding smaller and larger gold at depth with this new coil, so it might be something to look at some point if weight isn't a huge factor. Since it's a solid, round coil, its a bit heavier than a coil of the same size that is open.

I have heard NF is also releasing a new coil at some point, but haven't heard anymore updated on it yet.

Hope this helps a bit,

Do you still have the 14" coiltek that is wore out?

Rob, thanks for the input on the new Coiltek coil. I use the solid NF Advantage currently so I wouldn't expect the new CT coil to be much heavier ? If is as good on small nuggets as the NF it sound like it would work well in by sites.

Tom, I have the old Coiltek coil.
