Great day in the hills

Recommended Posts

Was able to go out today and do some detecting with Dad and Arctic Dave.
First spot we went to was a new spot. Really good looking bedrock and lots of targets....just none of them were yellow.

Decided to take Dave over to a spot ive gotten some nice gold out of in the past.

We had to take the back road to it. Been up that road once before and hated it....I hate it even more now :)
Its a rough son of a gun.

Get to the spot and I show Dave where we had gotten gold out of in the past. We decide to go downstream and hit some tribs into the main wash.

Dave hits a bench in the main wash above some bedrock. Its about 2 feet up and he finds a dern 1.5 grammer! YES!! He says theres another target here...scrapes around in the crevis and gets a .1 gram nug.
WTG!!! Really glad he got those. I had missed them in the past because I just didn't swing up that high on that bench. Guess theres a reason for everything :)
Finished out the day in the tribs and didn't find anymore.

But, it sure was nice out. And...The good Lord blessed Dave with some nice chunky gold.

yup....I learned some more today :)

Walked past those two 3 or 4 times. Guess I should have been thinking what happened 2000 yrs ago.

But, in my defense...that wash is 2 miles long.

Cant hit everything .
Im just glad he got em :)

Hey Tom,

Ya, hard to hit every single nook and cranny when a wash is that big and long. I would recommending on concentrating on any inside bends above the current water line though. The bend don't have to be drastic, even the "less bending" bends above the current creek level can be productive for nuggets. Could open some spots for you to re-check.

Rob:

Ive been thinking about that yesterday and today.

Figured I would do a bank hunt day, walk down the wash detecting one side and walk back up detecting

the other side :)

Did hit some benches and got a couple of pieces of trash about a foot down. 22 casings...go figure?

Hey Tom,

Ya, I think it would be worth it in those washes you found. Sometimes you can walk a long distance scanning the banks, but it only take one to make it worthwhile. Sometimes the ones that get hung up on the benches can be the bigger ones. Sure worth a day hunt to investigate some of your better, more productive gullies that had nugget gold. Wishing you much luck.
