How not to ground balance

Recommended Posts

I might not know much about running my 5000's but I do pride myself on being able to get a pretty sweet quiet ground balance so when I saw this video I was blown away by how close he's ground balancing to his target. :o

Correct me if I'm wrong here... but maybe that's why he says at the beginning the GPX does as good a job or better on deep... he almost looks like he's intentionally messing up the GB on this GPZ by that very close to the target balancing....

Or is this acceptable on this new fancy wiz bang machine? My guess is no....

Your thoughts mentors......

Yeah. I think the 5000 will go just as deep on gram plus gold. The 7000 may get the half gram - pieces deeper but we will see with all the tests. I know i have dug 22 casings and lead at 2ft + depths with the 5000 and stock 11in mono. I really like that coil. I kniw there was some in the beginning having issues with them being noisy on bumping them but mine was smooth in hot ground and easy to balance out. Nice comparison jen. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Guys,

I'm not a huge fan of the video. The Ground Balance on the GPX 5000 is very positive, making the signal sound much louder than it normally is. Look when we gets about 2-3 foot away from the target it's so noisy he would never find that nugget if he was scanning and hearing all that noise. Very easy (for any detector) to make BS video's. You don't know what settings they are using on the 5000 or 7000, so you can make the results really go either way. How do we know the GPZ 7000 is not running a gain of 6, while they have the GPX 5000 at a gain of 20? Like I said, I've seen too many videos .....

Hmm. The gb procedure for the 7 is supposed to be from side to side. Yeah I found it strange why he was doing it the way he did so close to the target too. And yeah, I had a 5 and could no way use normal in hot ground wandering around, it would sound like there were targets everywhere. Garbage vid that one. On a coin! Why not show a proper approach to the target as if you were actually out detecting, coming at it from several feet away instead of all that hovering over the same spot over and over and over, balancing just inches away from the target and hovering hovering hovering. Garbage. Would loved to have seen the 5 coming at it from several feet away in normal too. <_<

I recently got a 7 and to be honest I think it has problems :(, ill be checking it out against another next week.

Well I thought I'd seen it all..... Here you go kids...... here's proof that just because someone has a video on Youtube, doesn't mean they're a beacon of light and correct guidance on the subject their filming..... and now.... are you ready for this???????

Here you go...... his response..... you can ground balance over top of the target, if it was there before... it's going to be there again....

See attached.......

WOW!!!!!

Hey Jen,

I suppose you could do that, but it's not the normal procedure on ground balancing. That being said, if the ground is hot, I always ground balance around a "suspect" target zone. I will then dig some material out and check my ground balance on the soil dug out. This will normally let you know if the soil is hot and you're out of balance or the unit will not balance on that ground 100%. Normally, if you balance to the soil you dug out and get a smooth threshold and then get a response on the dig area, I have always found it's a deep, faint good target.

Hope this helps a bit,
