The $12,500 Metal Detector

Recommended Posts

New Minelab gold detector: $12,499.00
Most expensive Garrett gold detector: $799.95*

Is any detector worth twelve and a half thousand dollars? Are you buying more than just the parts that make up this machine? What exactly does "up to 40% more depth" mean?

On the other hand, if you live in gold country, one good find could pay for this machine. This is head-swimming territory, and I'm not sure how to handle it. What do YOU think?

*(To be fair, Garrett also has a deepseeker detector package at $3,280, but that one comes with two coils and several accessories and does much more than find gold.)

Well they are not going for advertized price as most will be selling them at $9999.99.

(up to 40% more depth) means that if their best GPX went 5 feet this one should do 7.5" give or take a foot. That extra 2'-3' should pick up the nuggets all the past Minelab detectors missed.

I live in "Gold Country" and never owned and barely used a detector over 15 years ago. I'ts amazing to see how far they have come.

I think the biggest issue people have with the detector is the price (those who do not own it yet) and for those like me, I spent 10 grand, a considerable chunk of cash but I do have one of the best and latest detectors on the market.

I am not expecting to hit it big my first time but having the equipment and confidence that this machine will find stuff where others have already dug would be to my advantage offering more chances to find gold. 40% more and even on already detected land!

The way I see it is, if I can't afford it then I don't need it. It's just like a new vehicle, if it doesn't fit your price range then don't buy it. Along with NEW technology comes NEW prices. I'm sure it wasn't cheap to research and test over and over again until the finished product was found. Plus the cost of manufacturing. We all know what Minelab is capable of.

I think it's fair to say at that price and from early reports you don't have one of the best.. you have THE best.
