I agree that most Litz is twisted bundles, not woven or braided, but some is:

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Litz_wire

"consists of many thin wire strands, individually insulated and twisted or woven together, following one of several carefully prescribed patterns"

(emphasis is mine).

I'll bet it won't work on anything else but a 7000.

I think you are 100% correct on that one and most probably the reverse also, nothing else will work on a 7000.

They call it a smart coil in the paperwork, perhaps the little board tells the detector its a 14 inch coil as opposed to the accessory coils that will be available in time.

Is the new technology more in the coil or the detector? It seems like it could be a new coil type thats creating the extra depth. I realize theyre using a change in polarity rather than a pulse but is the coil the driving factor? If thats the case could we expect to see super d coils for gpx detectors in the near future?

My guess is that both the coil and detector together are the new technology.
