Cover for the SDC

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I received the cover for the SDC 2300 that I ordered from Rob. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised by the thought and quality that went into the making of this piece of equipment. What I like most is the nylon straps that hold open the annoying folding arm rest on the SDC. They even had a steel plate built into the bottom of the cover to keep from wearing the bottom of the cover off! Takes less then a minute to put on if you are carrying your SDC in a day pack like I do for the walks in to the gold fields. I hope I have it on right? :)

Hey Strick,

I have one too and i like mine---it is a camo one...

I cant hear well so i had to "TN rig" up a speaker on a brace i have for my bungee cord..that takes the weight off the toe and is easier on my shoulder---i know using it with the hipstick would take even more of the load off....makes mine swing like is is 2 pounds lighter....

I think the metal on the bottom was meant to be an aid to keep the detector from falling over when you set it down---you can rotate the metal a half turn and use it for feet, but they are too short and it stil tips over..

I have started pushing the coil flat to the ground when i am kneeling down to sort out my dirt...it wont tip over then...

I didnt know what those extra straps were for!!! lolol

Here are some pics of my detector.......i would rather be showing the gold,,but alas...you have some nice ones

No instructions come with it nor do they advertise it showing the straps holding open the armrest so I figured that's what they are for...buy maybe I'm wrong and they have a dual purpose. I did not know that the metal pad on the bottom rotates sideways for extra stability so I guess we both learned something from this post...Thanks!

Hey Guys,

Yes, the straps are for the armrest that fold in all the time on the SDC. The quality of the control box cover is top notch. Both the camo and gray are selling well. They are a bit expensive at $95, but if they protect the detector it's worth it in my opinion. The small aluminum plate on the bottom is used to turn 90 degrees and helps the detector from falling over on the side while pinpointing and digging a target. This works well and a friend brought it to my attention while we were out detecting.

Hope this helps a bit,

It is simple--it just rivets to the bottom of the cover----loose enough it can spin--

This guy Big Al in AU is doing a great job with the covers--- some good Aussie workmanship....

He sounds like a good guy with a family there..i heard a little about him on the AU forum....seems like they all like him over there.

Maybe I will get to meet him in person one day!

Doc, I am SO surprised you didn't jump on this need, and make some in your shop right off the bat!

I was so hoping you would...

There is a need for adjustable lower shaft covers, and a bungee attachment arrangement, AND a swingarm that can attach and remove easily...I have made up a bungee attaching ability for me, as well as the swing arm, but others may prefer to buy theirs. The protective lower shaft cover I have not done. I do realize some of this may add some weight to the detector, however.

Hi Largo---we meet again....lol

I made my bungee/gin pole for 4.00 worth of aluminum strapping at Home Depot.....just bent it to an acceptable angle, drilled a hole in the end of it, put some rubber tape on it, and rubber taped it to the upper shaft--and it works great!

I even attached my external speaker with volume control to it because it is facing right towards me...a little hillbilly engineering....

Thx Gold Seeker,

I havent got any patents on it yet.... ;) .

I have a feeling JP's is a bit better than my unit---- my bungee system is fine, but

My amp/speaker system sounds kinda like you are slowly stepping on a cat's tail.....

But it is still better than the stock speaker---- at least i can hear it!!!-----(and it was a gift!!!!)

Thank you Santa!

JP, It is probably safe for you to continue to producing your booster,,,,hahahahahaha :P
