When any of us started detecting it was all about luck. We at first were like a hour glass in our quest to gain knowledge. The first grain of sand that fell to the bottom was us on our way to gain that knowledge. When all the sand has fallen to the bottom of the hour glass we are again the last grain of sand to fall but now at the top. Over the time it took we have been gaining knowledge some with the help others but we never stop seasoning it with a little luck.

We see guys posting all the time here of the nuggets they found. I'd say most didn't have that much luck every time they went out at first. Lots have said it took a whole year before they found their first nugget. The true nugget hunter is the guy that didn't find something yesterday but today picks himself up and does it all over again.

Maybe what it takes to be a true nugget hunter is Persistence Knowledge and Luck.

I always go by the 3 P's… Persistence, Perseverance, and Patience. Knowledge and a little luck thrown in for good measure are also very important factors when prospecting. Without knowledge and a little luck, abiding by the 3 P's could make for a somewhat dreary experience.

Hi azblackbird

I agree with you that we all need patience because without it we'll start swinging the coil too fast. We all know that low and slow is what we all need to remember when nugget hunting. This goes with all detecting be it nugget coin are relic hunting. It's just a fact of life you need to remember this.

Best to you.

All above are correct answers! I don't find color on every hunt and I don't expect to. But, I lace up my boots 4 to 5 days a week thinking about finding some color. I often say "Everyday is a different day" and I may have to dig deep in my book to find a single nugget for the poke. But, that single nugget has led me to a many of patches. You'll find yourself in the right place, smack dab in the middle of a patch if you use the comments from the above prospector's during your hunt. Low & Slow, Dig Them All (targets) and Let the Scoop Sort Them Out, The 3 P's, Research, Follow Your Instints or Do the Opposite...Luck, I never leave home without it! There is a patch out there with your name on it, but until you find it, it's all about the hunt for it in the great outdoors! Until the next hunt
