2300 and headphone adapter

Recommended Posts

Been thinking (I know scarey!)Since the adapter for regular headphones is so crazy expensive; what would be the downfall of cutting the headphone cord that comes w/ the 2300, and splicing in the standard male/female plug. This way one could use the headphones that came w/ detector or your choice. Just ask'n

Shep,

Thats what i wondered immediately when i actually saw the set up----- drives me crazy that ML would build a 4000.00 machine and put a 10 cent pair of headphones on it,...unreal..~~~~

Shep and Congress Man

If you will tie the headphone cord off to the detector back where the curl starts on the cord but do leave some play in it. You could use a string are a fair size rubber band so not to be pulling direct on the cord at the plug.

I retired from the phone company and I had to do this to head sets because the cord would always break at the housing. The weak point is at the plug and you just moved the trouble back to where it has more give.

The Best.

Chuck what I'm getting at is for this detector Minelab has a special waterproof plug on the detector and headphones; therefore have to use this set of headphones. I've never had a problem w/ UR30's, but the cord is kind of chincy (sp?)and delicate looking. Looking for cheaper solution than their expensive adapter. See JP has a mod that will do what I am looking for.

Thanks for reply, Shep

Yes ,,, i just want a different set of headphones and the plug on the factory one may be a way....then i can put some real headphones on it...

Update:

I just asked a guy in AU who sells the adapter if I could use that plug on my headphones and he said the wires were too small to work with for a good long term connection.....

and it costs more to buy them from him, than Rob

I'm sure all rocks have been over turned looking for this plug. The guy that is making now found them someplace. I would think that JP could go to minelab and say guys do you remember me and get one .

I think when I get back to San Antonio Tx. we have some very large electronic stores that sale all kind of parts. They may not have it but one of their catalogs may show it does.

I too would like to use another headphones and a better one that I do have. I'm not saying they are not good but they fit like two empty hot water bottles hanging over each ear. Think about that.

Shep,

I tried to modify the plug after breaking factory headphones in the field. No Joy, the wires themselves are pretty tiny and I am not sure how long the fix would last. I now have two of the adaptors that Rob's sell. Pricey but worth it, my initial failure with factory headphones resulted in cutting a trip short.

Best,

Rick

Bullit, totally understand. When I saw BS curly cord for headphones, I knew this wouldn't work. BUT! one can secure the modded female to the detector and use the regular UR#30's. Hopefully in time, price of adapter will drop, or not.

Hi Guys This is kinda funny, a while back was lookinbg for a set of UW phones for the 2300, Minelabs not out yet and Gary Storm isnt making them for the Detector...Looked at the Kellyco Catalog as they were advertising UW phoners for the 3030 and 2300.....I asked the salesperson there about the phones and he said we have them, I said you do not, you have the phones for the 3030 only, they will not work on the 2300 the plugs are different, to make a long story short they discovered quicly that I was correct, the salesperson called me back and thanked me for the correction..In the mean time Minelabs became available and Minelab was good enough to fix me up quickly..........Will look into JP.s fix where can the article be seen??? Maybe I should of clarified that, I work for a living in California. The taxes are bad enough, but the permits, fees, and stuff they charge for keeping us safe and healthier, can't afford to leave.

Hey Rick,

I have noticed with the headphone adapter on the SDC, the volume is pretty much the same with the Black Widow's or stock Koss. That being said, I use the Koss most of the time, but if it's noisy outside (wind and such) I will use the Black Widow's. Just my thoughts.

Did you end up getting a SDC?
