55 Nuggets so far with the Minelab SDC 2300 Metal Detector

Hello All,

By any means I don't have any bragging rights, but I'm really impressed with the new SDC 2300. It's now my primary prospecting metal detector, but will bring in the GPX 5000 on areas that have deeper depth and potentially larger nuggets.

I have used the SDC 2300 on about 6 hunts so far to spots I have hunted hard. I have pictured almost 50 nuggets found with the SDC 2300 since I started. There are a few nuggets I couldn't remember if I found with the SDC or GPX 5000 when I first started, as I toggled between the two finding a few with each. I'm a good ounce to 1.5 ounces to date with the SDC. Another ounce or so and I can say I paid for the unit working just old patches during the Summer months.

Really excited to take this deep into the hills and explore with it. The sensitivity is close to the GB2, but still has great PI mineral immunity to hot ground, ironstones and volcanics.

Hoping to get out in the next couple of days to explore this old channel I found on the top of a ridge. I'm hoping it pans out, rather than a few bits here and there.

Thanks for all the Birthday wishes.

Hey Paul,

I picked of 20 more this morning. I actually got tired of digging the damn bedrock up (very hard) to get them. You will love the SDC. My wife Dawn mentioned you might be in the market and you will have the credit for the coil. Not sure if you're a vet, but the 15% does help.

I thought that bedrock might really hold a lot of pieces that the larger coils can't hear, that is a real testimony to the ability of that machine to squeak out every last piece, a lot of people would call that drainage dead, just goes to show

Thanks Rob,

Yes I am a vet------

and I am paying attention to your finds and watching many You Tube vids about the 2300...... I read something Steve H said about not being able to buy new coils and I liked that positive spin!!!! lolol------ The SDC would save me money for sure on coils..I dont know how many diferent ones i have tried fhe SD/GPX units..

That discount for Vets makes it even harder NOT to get this machine..... we will talk, OK.

Ha, ha, I get Paul's point since I made it myself! The problem, if you can call it that, with the GPX is a person can wander off in search of the perfect coil. I and a lot of other Minelab owners have spent way more on coils than most people ever spend on detectors. Every year for many years there is the latest, greatest, newest hot coil for the big gun Minelabs. Not to mention aftermarket battery's, backup power cables, external speakers, etc.

The SDC just is what it is, and no complicated menus either. The silly thing just works great as is and finds gold, no fuss, no muss, and no garage full of add ons. Bad for dealers maybe but great for somebody wanting to look for gold and keep it at a minimum.

I have considered that I could ditch every bit of prospecting gear I have. And I mean all of it. I could keep just my SDC, a pick, and a plastic scoop, and have everything I would ever need to keep finding gold and finding it pretty darn well. That is my honest recommendation these days for more casual types who can afford the price tag, or pros just fed up with having a ton of prospecting gear. If you can't find gold with an SDC you just need to take up something else other than metal detecting.

So there you go, the SDC inability to use other coils is a benefit!

Wow, what a great circle nugget hunters come around...from hunting with BFO, many vlf's then the great 2000 to the 5000...then every size and type of coil for every machine. Now back to one machine and one coil that apparently can do most everything very well...and Minelab has made it idiot-proof too.

WOW! It is a fine day to hunt gold
