Sorry Hendo, no guiding service, but that’s neither here nor there. If you decide to visit this area and get in touch, I’m sure we can make plans to familiarize you with the area’s key sites and pointed in the right direction. It may be a bit different type of hunting from what you’re used to back home, but if you like, we could spend some time together in the field to get you more comfortable with the environs. No worries, I’ve got lots of time and it would be fun.

There’s no doubt that you’ll find some small silver, but valuable larger silver is much more difficult to find at or near the surface these days. I’m not saying it can’t be done, but rather that such finds are becoming more infrequent. In fact I recovered a specimen grade multi-pound piece… photo below… last autumn near the surface, but I knew it was an isolated bit of luck and nothing more.

Aside from float late in the season, my efforts to find large silver center around trying to identify what I think looks to be promising ground, and manually excavating a lot of material…an example photo below… to recover good silver at depth. It’s a hit and miss proposition that produces over the long haul… but not a very practical or viable strategy for someone making a one-time visit here.

So it’s best to keep your expectations low to avoid disappointment, and to realize that it is highly unlikely you’ll find enough sufficiently valuable silver to cover most of your expenses. On the other hand you never know… good things tend to happen for those who get out there and work at it.

Jim.
