Roo
You sure all those noises were the machines? Im not convinced. Trippy add, but Minelab is based in South Aus so that might explain it!
Alwaysdirty
Minelab is definitely trying to reach a younger audience with that ad. Not to bad. For you old timers that type of music is called Dubstep, well it's a subgenre of Dubstep. Any way's, all those sounds could have been recorded from the detectors then chopped up and synthesized with an electronic music production program. That's how they make the beats and get the bass and other sounds you don't normally here from the detectors. It's actually a lot of work to compose that music and takes some skill. Sounds funky to most, but I like it!

Old Tom
When the old guy falls into the hole in the sand did he hurt his head and start dreaming? Kind of wierd to me but then I've had a few dreams like that especially of that girl on the swing. In my dreams I also get younger. I wonder how that ad goes over in Aferica and Asia? Roo
Yeah, I reckon your on the money there Alwaysdirty. I reckon the only percussion sound any of those machines would make naturally would be someone banging a dodgy coil against a tree out of frustration
DOC
You sure all those noises were the machines? Im not convinced. Trippy add, but Minelab is based in South Aus so that might explain it! Yes, but the sounds were modified using a synthesizer. But it is all sounds of Minelab detectors. DOC
Here's what I think about this commercial and why I think it is genius. There is a lot of subliminal messaging going on. First, most people look at us crazy dudes with our headphones clopping around on the beach as some kind of weirdos. But what is really going on with the guy under the headphones?Well he is having the time of his life, he is on a quest, an adventure, and guess what, under that weird exterior, that guy is actually pretty cool. He's a visionary, he's a treasure hunter. He is less like a creepy old fart and actually more like an Indiana Jones adventure seeker. And just when the viewer is thinking, oh hype, non-sense, pie in the sky. We throw in a dose of reality, cut away to the Aussie prospector who actually found a nugget the size of a small dog with a Minelab metal detector. Holy shit, is that real? The viewer asks himself. And, the ending, as someone already mentioned, tossing the kid a ring, because guess what, we who are involved in this hobby may be adventure seekers, treasure hunters, but first and foremost, we are nice guys. And that's not hype. How many of us have spent hours upon hours helping someone trying to find a keepsake. Or hours trying to locate the owner of a class ring or other precious piece of someone's personal history. This commercial says so much more about our hobby than it actually says about Minelab detectors. I am thoroughly impressed.Doc
Roo
Hmm, Doc, detecting must be different in the USA to here in Aus! Id say more about the reality of it all but out of respect for the owner of this site ill just
AZNuggetBob
Hey I dont know about Vivaldi but Mozart may appreciate it. I agree a 100 % both alwaysdirty and Doc, a synthesizer. I reconize most of the tones from blips to Minelab overload but it is an interesting mix and video. AzNuggetBob

Roo
Yeah, you should see it when a new machine comes out, its like "ah my old 2200 is better" Me and my professional mates tested it in our test bed and it doesn't do anything better, it goes shallower and misses gold" "Ah its only good on fly specks". I love it because by the time they realise they are wrong the rest of us have had 12 months cleaning up with them. And yes QLD is a good place, has a lot of areas that are not as easily got to as here in Victoria. All our fields can be got to easy by anyone. Its a small state in comparison to QLD and there are roads and track everywhere here, easy access.

Roo
Yeah they are a good machine, still real good with big DD's in bad ground, I know a few guys who have them still along with a 45 or 5. A lot of big gold was found with them. When they first came out they got rubbished badly. But you know who was rubbishing them? The Aussie Victorian Field testers! Were telling everyone they was no good and had problems. All the while laughing behind their backs and getting good deep gold with the big DD's on them. Took months before everyone woke up to their dirty trick. I admit I got sucked in by them too as I believed what they said and I thought I knew them well enough not to get bum steered, after all they were field testers, right? AZNuggetBob
Roo I'm not going to go there on field testers. It really depends on who the field tester is! AzNuggetBob
Roo
Yeah I know what you mean, some/a lot are good blokes and im not inferring all are like the two I mentioned. In fact it was one of them that was the main culprit, the other just went along with anything he said. What I meant was, this guy in particular was a field tester and I thought I could take his word for good seeing as he was one. He no longer is though. But boy did he bum steer a lot of people when he was.
