McGator
This was day after I'd found that Morgan silver dollar. My step son Nick and I went back out this same field where this ghost town was. Spanish reales are common finds in other parts of the country but are never found in Nebraska. This coin was chopped probably by a plow blade and I was fortunate enough to find the other half about 4 ft from the first half. Also found a Civil War button and some other items that leads me to believe this was a campsite in the 1850's. As a lesson to Nick, I marked the spot where the first half with a golf tee and had Nick go over it with the CTX. He went at normal speed and didn't hear it. Had him slow up shorten his sweep and slow up, still didn't hear it. So I had him shorten it some more down to the size of a plastic lid from a small drink cup which is about 3-4". BAM!! He heard it. Even though I didn’t know what it was at the time I told Nick that’s what you listen for and that’s how easy it is to walk right over it. I had him do the same thing with the ETrac which was set up in TTF, same results. I also had the CTX set up to emulate the TTF. When we dug it, I didn't know what it was so I thought it was a token and I let Nick cleaned it off (Nick style) which showed the rays and the date. I thought it was going to be a US coin until I got home and looked it up. I found the other half about 2 more targets later. Cheers!!!Mike http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHski3UriQY&feature=c4-overview&list=UUAejlv5NecxQKeLIXYijzsA

Ridge Runner
McGator Here in South Texas you can find coins like you talk about in half and quarters. This was a way to pay someone if you didn't owe the whole coin. I seen a cigar box half full and none was a whole coin. I've been known to be wrong but this is where you get the term piece of eight.
