  1. Had a great day out detecting today. Weather was perfect and we were blessed with gold. I found 5 nuggets for a total of 7/10ths of a gram. They were 4-6 inches deep. Mike found two nuggets also. Four of them were found in a 3 ft. stretch of wash. That was pretty exciting. I'm really impressed with the sensitivity on small gold the GPX 6000 has. Enjoy!
  2. Hey all: Was able to get out over the last few weeks to start off the AZ gold season. Did pretty good! First place that I got 2.6 grams out of was a wash that I have beat to death over the last 6 yrs. Have had many friends in there and they beat it too. I purchased a 6000 from Rob last summer and I think that is what really made the difference. I was using the 5000 before and the monster. The two big ones were about 2 feet up the bank but the little ones were right in the gut of the wash that was even placered out and turned over many times. We have not had any significant rain to change things this year so, these were simply missed. But it seems like the 6000 sniffed them out. The .2 grammer was found on Wed. I went into a new area that looked good from GE but once I got in there it was all volcanics. HOT volcanics! The 6000 was squawking like a banshee. After two old bullets I found the nug. Even though there was a lot of ground noise once the 6000 gets over a target it will let you know. Just have to wrap your head around the background noise and concentrate. Found about 6 more old bullets and a cool horse shoe. This has opened up a LOT of new territory for me to work now Great day out with friends and the good Lord blessed me with some gold. Tom H.
  3. Ok Bob.....thats FUNNY! How are you doing? I got out a few times this year with the 6000. It will find the small stuff. Its like the monster on steroids. Waiting for Halloween to get back out. Too stinking hot! Tom H.
  4. Wow! A 5.5 is a great find! Congrats. Tom H.
  5. Bob: I had a bunch of popular science/mechanics magazines from the 50s. In the back they would have advertisements for things to buy. One of them was a metal detector that had a big box on the top end. Basic technology but can you imagine the amount of gold you could have found with it in the 50s Wow! Tom H.
  6. 70s/80s seemed like the perfect time for knocking down the big stuff with detectors. It's still out there. Just got to go a little farther back in to get over patches. I did find my 5 oz wash though in 2002. Pizza wash! Tom H.
  7. Great advice Bob. Just wish you didn't give it out Haha... I have a spot like that called "road wash". Like you I drove over it many times. I saw a little trib one day and decided to check it out. It ran right into the road. Well, I got a bunch of 1 grammers and smaller ones out of it. Even a couple on the hillside and benches. The next time I went through the area the monsoons had blasted the road out and what was usually a foot or more of overburden was now bare craggy bedrock. I detected the road and found a bunch of small nuggets! Even a sunbaker. Quads/dirt bikes and side by sides come through the area a lot. They would look at us with bewilderment digging and raking and we would just say, Doing some county road maintenance is all 😁 Tom H.
  8. Thanks Bob. Yah I remember that day. Now its my turn to take days to recover But.....im still going to get out! Tom H.
  9. Dang! Thats a heck of a find! Well done sir. Tom H.
  10. Went out today for the first time in about 5 months. WOW! What a awesome day! Just under 9 grams in 3 hrs. I hiked 3/4 mile up pizza wash and within 5 min I got the big one. It kept reversing the signal so I was not sure. I guess its just so solid it does that. The big one is 5 grams. Got the other two a little farther down the wash. Its always a good feeling when your digging and you get down to the red hard pack and then hit bedrock and the signal is still there. Good Lord really blessed me today But, my legs are shot! Need to get back in shape from the summer hibernation.
  11. Dang! Thats a heck of a find! I wont be upgrading to a 7000 from my 5000. Like it too much and don't want to carry a 10 lb. detector around Tom H.
  12. Im on here almost every day and do not have any problems. On my computer....not on a phone. Yes, the forums have all slowed to a crawl. I have only been out 3 times this last year due to health issues with my wife. So, posting anything about gold has been minimal for me. Things have sure changed in the last few years on how people communicate/share. Might also be that not as many new people are getting into this these days? Tom H.
  13. Has been a while...only been out 3 times this season. But, did find a new area yesterday that gave me this nice 1 gram nugget. It was only about 4 inches deep on the bedrock. LOTS more tribs and washes to hunt in this area. The .1 gram came from an old area close to the new area. Tom
  14. Cool finds! Were they all in the same area? Tom H.
  15. Thats a great story! Congrats on finding a new area. Tom H.
  16. Was able to take advantage of a cooler day and got back into Truck wash with the gold monster. Have hit the area pretty hard with the 5000 and thought I would go crumb chasing today. Got 4 at .3 gram. 3 out of the washes and one from the hillside. Did some scraping on the hill side but no more. This place is infested with iron stone from 1/8" to 10". Had to go into disc some times just to try and keep it half way quite. It was just good to get out finally, but boy, I can tell I have not been detecting in a while. Will probably feel it even more tomorrow! There were a lot of these blister beetles out also. Guess they can leave a painful blister if you play with them. Tom H.
  17. Ok...so the door and data plate are from a Sperry Ball turret gun on either a B-17 or B-24 Bomber from WW2. Dont know how it got out there. You can see how the data plate shows how to load the twin 50 cal. machine gun belts. Tom H.
  18. It happens whether we like it or not! This one is 32 yrs apart. My wife and I in front. Dad holding my daughter and my sister last Christmas. Tom H.
  19. I decided to post this! Have not been out much this year due to health issues....but.... Along with finding gold detecting, I do find other treasures out in the Az. desert. A 350 dollar Garmin that I use all the time now, old flip phone, lots of mining relics (usually dug up) A rectangular steel door with latches on it and a data plate that was riveted to it at one time. Even found part of a human skull and had to take Peoria detectives back to the spot to investigate. 6 Mon. later they said they were able to ID the person.....hopefully it gave some body closure on their missing loved one. Anyone want to guess what the door and data plate are from? I know....will tell in a few days Enjoy! Lets see what other "cool finds" you guys get?
  20. WOW!!! You sure did get blessed with those. WTG on getting them. Congrats. Tom H.
  21. Hey all: Looking for some advice on walkie talkies. Was out hunting this weekend with Luke and we were suppose to meet at a certain spot at 1. Well 1 came and went and about 1:30 we found each other. My fault. The spot we were suppose to meet at was on the other side of the big hill! Needless to say, all sorts of things start going through your head....both our heads! Broken leg, broken hip, heart attack....... So, we are looking at getting some walkie talkies. What I would like to know is........... Do all of them not work (like the ones we have) when your down in washes and such? Are the longer range ones more powerful and will over come the hills and valleys? Do any of you use one that works good out in the hills that you could recommend? Thanks Tom H.
  22. Nice Nugget Rob! WTG. Talk in grams for us newbies Little buffing and that knife will be good as new. Tom H.
