Detecting is a great fun hobby. Good exercise, nice places to go, etc. But I wouldn't put too much faith in making money at it. I have a GMT that's made for gold and I think one of the better VLFs and I get skunked more than I find gold. There's gold to be found, but if you start thinking that you NEED to find it to make up lose ends, it will probably frustrate you when you don't find it. I've been there, started comparing fuel costs to what I was finding. Can't do that, it'll ruin it for you.
