Dan, I met Karl and the other treasure hunters in 1973 at the Bob Barnes treasure hunt at the Sheppard Mall in Houston , note the other treasure hunters names in this news letter. I knew them all. H Glenn Carlson was my neighbor in late years in Deming, NM and sold Karls books., many of the old time tresure hunters have passed on. Jim Alexander who kindly mentioned my name in this old newsletter was the first man I ever knew who went to Australia to hunt gold.

My wife's had one for 14 years it takes practice but it can be tuned in, don't waste your money on the speed control model. it makes little difference and it naturally get slower as the battery discharges. They are roughly set as they come from the factory, you will have to do a lot of adjusting take a small rat tail file and clean the holes in the spray bar, you can make small adjustments to the angle of the spray bar holes by inserting the point of an icepick and directing the holes somewhat where you want it. She catches the tails and re runs them till she gets the right setting for what ever I bring her. When properly set you can catch sapphires, diamonds and other gem stones. Max

Junker, My wife's club is very involved in that program. Until last year I had an Oversize truck escort service and averaged over 21 nights a month in motels, I routinely took all the provided toileteries and brought them home for their care boxes, at a lot of my regular stops I knew the managers and they contributed more, all that stuff is factored into the price of a room.Some of the big chains have quality stuff! At one particular chain the have individual packs of tissues that the troops that wrote back their thanks mentioned as a favorite item to receive. It dosen,t take much effort, just not apathy! Another thing I do is take a service man prospecting. Its just a personal thing , I can remember when they had signs about service men! Max

Ridgerunner, I do this everytime I see one in a restaurants I am in ! Sometimes you are surprised at the results, I met a Navaho Code talker that way and he came over and talked to me, fasinating storys! The price of a few meals is tiny compared to the sacrifices they make and have made in the past! Of course now we veterans are all certified terrorists. I won't get into my rant and rave mode but I am ashamed of the crooks and incompants that are runing and ruining our goverment, its due to apathy on our part. Yesterday in a grocery a ragged clothed bare footed couple in front of me counted pennies from the bottom of a backpak to pay for : Her a pack of filter name brand cigs $11.95 , him a pack of Bugeler $9.95, they had a twenty and wanted the clerk to discount the rest, when she refused they asked everyone in line behind them for the difference, everyone refused. I told the clerk to either call another checker and the manager or I was leaving $40 worth of groceries on the belt and walking out. Someone obivousily supports that bar, you will find that business's that routinly rip off customers don't last long, I would think that the name on that place has changed often. They use the excuse that its a long way to suppliers, BS, there is no freeway that does not lead to a major city in 4 or 5 hours, even in Nevada. Max

Fox news had a DR on this am saying that Colonoscopsy,s and PSA tests are mostly unnessary and the stuff they give you to drink can destroy your kidneys. he said most men over 60 will get some form of postate cancer eventualy and even if you do you will likley not die from it but from something else and that DRs do entirely to many tests. If you are into crystal digging also go just across the CA border to Deep Creek CA, there is a ranch/school/Govt place on the south side of the road, go just about 3/4 of a mile west of it and look for a small round hill with a dirt road leading to it about 1/4 mile off the paved hiway, you can probably see the diggings., Clear Quartz crystals come out of here , some to 100 LBS but it it tough digging and passed diggers have covered some of the best areas with tallings. A good pocket might have nice clusters from 1" to 1" or more. Then go back to NV to the hot springs great, soaking, lots of skinny dippers on the week ends and teen hang out at night, go futher out the road toward Silver Peak for good camping and prospecting, good winter time spot, I don't know the present claim situation. goalie1, Watch the classifieds on this and the other gold forums, there are good deals on detectors every day, right now in my local newspaper the "Wickenburg Sun" there is a "New" Goldbug II for $500 with all asseroires for sale. The paper is on line, look it up and give the guy a call! I turn down good deals on MineLabs often ( I have one.)

AzNuggetBob, I remember that guy hanging around the LSD area! Some where I even have a picture of him with that snake hanging around his neck, never knew what happen to him, I am going to look for the pic (print before the days of digital) I lost a lot of my prints in a fire and am slowly scaning what I have left (100s).
