  1. Rob, I knew you would like 'em. They are a tough boot to beat for desert electronic prospecting. I like the composite safety toe as well. No more smashed toes while rolling boulders etc... They don't even cost anymore than a good pair of sandals.
  2. Rob, You will like those boots. I think Desert Tactical has free shipping that could make a difference. I still have my claims. My friend died last fall that lived on his patented claim next to mine. I found my friend dead in his trailer one day last October. He had been there for a week or more. It was pretty horrendous. I still have the kitten that crawled up my leg when I opened his trailer door to check on my friend. The kitten ravaged my beef jerky and lapped down a 1/2 cup of water while I waited for the Sheriffs deputy to show up. My kids named the kitten ashes. She is a good cat and a helluva hunter.
  3. I use the converse boot with a composite safety toe. They are 100% non-metalic and are very comfortable and light. Here is a link to the distributor that I buy from. http://www.desert-gear.com/codetabolast.html
  4. Bunk A hunch usually tells you something. There is a very strong possibility that these guys stole from others in the area. They just got caught in this one. Thieves steal for a living and are constantly looking for an oppurtunity to relieve others of thier belongings. However, the chance of you recovering your belongings is not good. These guys were selling everything to junk yards.
  5. Just read this in this mornings paper. I really can't believe the gall of some people. Thieves just help themselves to someone elses property and sell it to salvage yards for dimes on the dollar of what it is really worth. The property owner will have to replace this equipment and pay actual retail prices for the replacements. The thieves probably got enough for scrap to buy a bag of dope and a bottle of Mad Dog. They aren't very smart thieves either. They left an abandoned vehicle filled with a bunch of stolen goods. They probably got enough goods and money to buy their dope then got high for several days and forgot to go back and clean up. The good part is they got caught and now get a chance to sober up and pay the consequinces. Here is the news article: http://www.dcourier.com/main.asp?SectionID=1&SubSectionID=1086&ArticleID=81077
  6. Chris, Yea I am not good at sizing pics. Maybe Rob can fix them. That formation you posted is really interesting. I wonder how it weathered in that shape? Looks like ancient hand stacking. The boulder in my pics. does not appear to have weather out in that place. It must have slid down the hill and stood on its head to a stop (maybe). The granite underneath the boulder is consistant and smooth with this mega boulder balancing upright. Makes one wonder if it was moved there intentionly by someone or something. I don't believe in UFO's, but this balancing act begs for an explaination.
  7. I took a Motorbike ride through Crown King and down into the Packard area with a friend of mine on Saturday. We rode for 9 hours through some of the roughest terrain that a motorbike or any other offroad vehicle as far as that goes could handle. His bike was leaking some gas trough a faulty shut off valve and he ran out of gas down by Rock Springs. I went on and got the truck and came back and got him around 9 pm. We got to the Bad Ass B-Que just before 10 pm and got the all you can eat beef ribs "emmm good". Our trip was not without reward, we saw some very interesting gold country and maybe the most mystifying sight I have ever seen. Most of you have seen pictures and maybe some of you have seen with your own eyes Stonehenge in England. Imagine a granite boulder in the same elongated shape as the big stones at Stonehenge standing upright on a sloping smooth polished granite foundation out in the middle of nowhere. The boulder pictured below is probably 20 to 30 feet tall and probably 80 to 100 tons in mass. Just how in the hell did it get into that position? Totally mind blowing!!
  8. I agree with the deputy, most likely insurance fraud. There is no other good reason to tear it up like that and dump it. If it was simply stolen and used in a crime it would have been dumped and not so methodically vandalized and ditched so far out. Hard times and someone wants to get away from their payments and responsibilities. A lot of men ditch their kids for this very same reason.
  9. Clay Cool heads almost always prevail. Fear and anger cause overreacting, which in turn almost always makes things worse. Fear and anger are provocative emotions, and cause others to overreact in turn, thus snowballing the original issue. Attitude is everything in dealing with all types of people.
  10. I have a claim at Rich Hill that was over filed on this year. When I found out about it I sent the people a certified letter asking that they not remove any minerals and to return any that may have already been removed. The guy called me a couple of days later and after discussing realized he made an over filing and said he would respect my rights. It was a very friendly exchange and ended in a good way. No need for any over reaction. People of all types make honest mistakes. I like to think that most people are honest good people and if informed properly they will do the right thing.
  11. I love it when the target you are digging is so deep and in the redclay/cobble hardpack that you go to the truck and get your rockbar so you can take the sides of the hole deeper without tamping and damaging the potential nugget. As you reach as far in the hole while laying on your belly as possible you reach and scrape a couple of handfuls of cobbles and dirt out of the 2 foot+ deep whole. You then check the hole with your detector and notice that the signal is gone. You then look over at your throw outs and notice that one of the redclay stained cobbles has some gold showing. Your heart races as you pick up the cobble of gold and feel the 2.2 ounces of weight that your new found friend has. I will never forget.
  12. Rob, Nice Black Canyon Nugs. Those look fairly smooth and water worn. I have noticed that the nugs in the small washes shedding off of those dikes are usually rough. Downstream in the larger washes plus the ancient bench placers have those nice smooth worn ones. However, I have found a few well worn ones high up in the hills. Not sure why they were worn so well, when seemingly very close to the source. Appearantly an enormous amount of time and events have past for these, leaving one wondering just how long has that nugget been laying there, and what geologic events has it seen.
  13. Well I don't have a .454, but that bear would have gotten a snap shot of breakfast excrement in the face possibly blinding him long enough for me to kiss my ass goodbye. For this and more bear attacks check out this link: http://www.adn.com/bearattacks/
  14. Doc What do the bidders know that you and us here don't know? There sure is some secrecy and unexplainable demand for the GPX4500. Demand for other gold recovery equipment ought to be increasing as well, if a gold rush is in fact happening somewhere in the world. I smell a BIG RAT
  15. Rob I wasn't referring to you personally, but rather to Minelab. I completely understand you as a dealer selling your product, and the best part is that you truly believe in it. I personally think you are a good man, and a helluva nugget hunter. You know how to work hard. If I have a negative opinion it is toward Minelab, not you personally. I just don't like the way Minelab takes advantage of their customers by trying to put a new detector in their hands every year or two. Minelab has no loyalty or principles that I can see. The fact that they don't want to service the older models and artificially limit supply in order to keep the price up, is a disgrace as far as I am concerned. I just wanted to put some balance into the debate on whether newer is better. Sorry I sounded negative, but you of all people need to know how customers like me feel about the products you sell. I personally really like my GP3000 and have used the piss out of it with no problems to this point. I will eventually buy a younger generation machine at some point, but it needs to pencil out first. No hard feelings towards you, Take Care.
